My question to the good people of this forum. Would a year round Halloween city/town work? It'd have to be in a warm climate area...maybe Northern California. Also it'd have to be in a wide open space to avoid all the religious weirdos. It would never shut down, but certain attractions would be closed certain times of the year. I'm talking an almost start from scratch VEGAS style project.
Said city/town would be nothing but Halloween themed hotels, themeparks, museums, restaraunts, stores, bars, and anything else you can think of. Kind of like a Halloween Las Vegas. Then eventually people would start to build houses outside of the city and mainstream stores would follow.
From the second you drove into the town, you'd see employees walking the streets as zombies, Halloween decor everywhere, etc. You'd then park and/or check into your hotel. From there you would have an endless choice of different haunted houses, museums, bars, plays, concerts, etc. Wanna see a movie? Go to the revival theater and watch old and new classics or stop by the haunted drive in where costumed actors roam the aisles of cars scaring the holy hell out of your girlfriend.
Go to the Halloween casino where all the dealers are monsters. Or head to the strip club where all strippers must start off in a costume.
Wanna dance...head to any of the 10 nightclubs in full costume. After that, get something to eat at the numerous 24 hour restaraunts. Then head back to your hotel which is rigged to haunt you throughout the night with sound effects and visual FX...Yes a fake haunted hotel!!!
The next night head to LEMAX ALLEY, where all the haunted attractions are based directly off LEMAX Spookytown collectables. Take a trip through the LEMAX FUNHOUSE. Then head over to the haunted carnival, where all the rides are Halloween themed.
Off to the Haunted Graveyard where every hour and a half the zombies pop out of the groud and perform Michael Jacksons THRILLER in its entirety. Or if you're more of a sophisticated type, don your best cloak and mask and head to the hooded orgy based directly off of the Stanley Kubrick film "Eyes Wide Shut". There wouldnt be any sex, but lots of naked people....something for everyone.
The last day, you spend the morning having breakfast in the cemetary as you watch zombies just walk around. Then do some shopping at the numerous costume/prop shops. How about an afternoon show? You head over to the MonsterZone where todays matchup is Dracula vs Frankenstein. You an an audience watch a fake fight involving the two Halloween behemoths...a complete stage show with pyro, special FX, and great fight choreography.
As you leave, you drive past the trees of woe...nothing but trees with dead people/monsters hanging from them. You've had the time of your life and theres still 25 attractions you didnt get to see, dont worry you can come back next week.

It sounds like a lot of fun and everyone on the forum would probably go eventually (well maybe not all the way to CA from the east coast). After that I don't know how many people would show up in the off season.
Just get the backing and capital and give it a shot.Boo!

I think the flaw in the plan is the Halloween theme. What you're describing is a horror-themed city, and I think Detroit already has that title.

Land is too expensive in Northern California for such an undertaking, and believe me when I say the weirdos are already here! Love the idea though
Undead and loving it!

Nope....look around your hood at what percentage of people really decorate...that would probably be where the visitors would come from....don't see it lasting year round.

What a wonderful thought, and sure, I'd go! But I don't think enough of non-Halloween fanatics would, unfortunately. Perhaps something on a much smaller scale, like the "North Pole" attraction open year-round in Colorado Springs or one of those colonial towns on the east coast where you can go watch a blacksmith shoe a horse.

I posted a reply, but it seemed to have disappear into the internet. So here we go again:
I think it would be possible, but in order for it to be profitable it would probably have to be a much smaller idea and it would have to be restricted in how long it was open. Even popular places like Six Flags close down during the week because no one really ventures out there during that time. I definitely think there's a market for it though, the novelty of being able to go to a horror themed location is the kind of thing that would appeal to a pretty broad crowd these days.

It may work. I actually thought about a haunted drive in, too.

I also, like you, thought of the haunted hotel idea.
