What, if any, are some Halloween icons (props) that's hard to find? For me the biggest is the moon. As big as this icon of Halloween is, both literately and figuratively, a good moon prop is hard to find. Yes you can find moons with witches flying across the face, or wolfs howling in front of a full moon but, anyone know where you can find a large (something that may go on the roof) prop of the moon? I also know of the twisted ambiance DVD but without a large monitor or expensive projector this one is not quite what I'm looking for either.

I did find a moon that my daughter had on her wall, one of those that show the moon phases, which was broke so I did a little hack job on it. I gutted the insides, drilled a hole so I can fit a light inside and cut a silhouette of the Grim Reaper and taped it to the inside. It looks pretty cool and I will incorporate it into my count-down clock next year but, anyone know of a large moon prop of any kind?

Also any other icons of Halloween you have problems finding?

Here's a couple of shots of my moon, it's only 10" in diameter but looks nice. One white light and one "Blood moon". I'm going to find a better image of the reaper to use but this will give you and idea of what it looks like.

Sambone made a post today under the What did you find/buy today thread about finding the Uncle Milton moon at RiteAid. really cheap! I bought one of these earlier in the year but haven't modified it. Like what you did with yours with the image in it. My inspiration to purchase was someone's post where I think they added yellow lighting to it and made it a golden moon.

Spookie, I see that post now. These little items a nice but I'm thinking of something much larger which you could maybe be put on your roof to simulate a real moon. I moded mine to hold a standard blow mold type light so it's easy to change it to whatever color you want it to be.

Actually I understood what you were looking for and assumed that the Uncle Milton/Discovery Kids one was more likely what your daughter had in her room. Figured you did a nice job with it and if someone wanted to replicate it on their own they could inexpensively. So my post was more intended for others out there. I do like what you did with your daughter's moon.

I didn't offer up any suggestions for you as I don't think I've seen any really large moons similar to the Uncle Milton. However I do think someone brought up this same subject maybe less than a year ago. As I recall the poster found an expensive prop and wanted to come up with something more reasonably priced. Not sure if they were looking to build one themselves or not. I think Uncle Milton's version was brought up, which is where I first saw this kind of thing with the changing phases, and there was discussion on how to light something up if they built it on their own. Don't know if that thread would be helpful to you or not. Did a search and found the part of the thread I was refering to: Moon. Apparently from what was written there was a 25-inch moon of some kind sold at FrightProps that was someone's inspiration. I clicked on their link to it but it's not linkable anymore unfortunately.

    ---
Update:I did a search on their website and they are still selling it--here's the webpage it's listed on now: http://www.frightprops.com/lighting/...moon-0915.html

Guess I was wrong about not seeing a large moon seeing as how I had commented on the 25-inch one in the thread! Hope the Moon thread page might help if the iZombie moon at Fright Props is more than you are looking to spend. I thought some of the DIY suggestions on the forum were interesting approaches.

When I strike it rich, I want get get one of these 7' diamter moon balloons to have floating over my house on Halloween.

Sadly, they're very expensive. For a lot less, you could go to a party store and purchse a 4' diameter white balloon, fill it up with helium, and maybe spritz some grey on it to give a moon look.

That 7 foot moon looks cool TK421! I also liked their spaceship. Would love to see both in person actually in the air.

Ghost of Spookie, thanks for the link I didn't know about this prop. It's a little pricy but, something I will keep in mind and now have the site bookmarked.TK421, nice but out of my price range.

If you can teather the balloon with at least three points so it doesn't blow around too much, you could definitely project some great animated images!
