Over the holiday season an idea hit me for next year's costume,EVIL SANTA,blood, knife etc. Is this creepy and macabre or does it cross the line as tasteless?

Could be either, but I'd say that it would be considered tasteless by most people. Why not have a skeleton don a Santa suit, put it in a chair, and stretch some webs over it to make it look like he's been there for quite awhile?

I think it could be creepy and less tasteless if you made a story to go with it....maybe like a serial killer/crime story background for him?

Choosing which age group(s) you'll wear your homicidal Santa costume around will make all the difference between creepy and tasteless.
There's something wrong with me chemically, something wrong with me inherently.

Whatever you ever do or have for a display or a costume can and will offend Somebody, if a large enough group of people happened to see what you have done.
I would recommend Not doing this for a Christmas parade or an outdoor display. An adult party, yes.
It seems to me that most haunts trying to actually make any money from a December show will have to cater to mostly Grandparents bringing Grandchildren there= No Evil Santa.
Opening a haunted Christmas House for the older teens and college age, Yes! I think this style of thinking would be popular.
A combination of the two could be built using gates and selective lighting with each previously identified audience being shown the appropriate display."My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"

I agree with many of the others who say yes to an adult party, no to neighborhood trick-or-treaters. Adults would probably love it as long as there are no children around.

I also agree with it being done for an adult party that would be fine.......and not outside where small children will see it and maybe ruin the Christmas Santa. We get a ton of little ones at our house and I would hate to be the parent trying to explain that one to their kids.
