I've resisted buying a chainsaw forever but next year's Body Farm wouldn't feel complete without one. Because I let the ToTs into the yard I don't dare put a real one out, even if it's disabled. It will be treated as a static prop and won't be carried by an actor, so how it sounds isn't really important, only how it looks. With all the clearance sales going on I'm hoping to pick my selection up inexpensively as it's not something I plan to use more than next year.

I'd say the SpookyProps one. Brace yourself though... expensive $725: http://spookyprops.com/chainsaw.html
I have the Cattle Prod and love it. Great, effective scare.

Check craigslist for broken ones.
I found some great 40-50 dollar ones near me so I bet you could find some near yourself.

Since you are looking for a prop, not necessarily with sound and something inexpensive, what do you think of this one? http://www.brandsonsale.com/ca-00683..._source=google
I've bought from Brandsonsale before (an animated raven candy dish) and had a good experience with my purchase and the item. 27 inches for a chainsaw sounds like a decent length to make the prop seen. And from the description of it on this website, it also does have sound although you said thatwasn't important.

I amend my request. I am seeking the second-best looking chainsaw on the market

That's the model I was strongly considering buying at HA this morning, and it sounds like it may be my best option. It'll be interesting to see where the best deal with shipping comes from.

Is the Gemmy chainsaw worth holding out for? I know it's received some good reviews on the forum, although I certainly prefer the price of the Leatherface one:

I think the Gemmy one is worth waiting for. Our regular price (when we have them in stock) is $39.99... after Halloween we had them for $23.99, but now they're all sold out. Here's our video of the chainsaw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vu3YI6Rraes

Thanks for the input, everyone (and feel free to keep it coming). As reluctant as I am to buy a chainsaw, I'm even more reluctant to buy a lesser quality one that may not look as good in the display or hold its value well. I'm returning to Victorian gothic in 2013 & 2014 and obviously a chainsaw would be out of place in those displays! Wish I'd thought to ask this question while HA still had them in stock. Why oh why did I have to set my mind to having a chainsaw sitting outside a chest freezer full of severed limbs?!

Hehe. Yeah definitely doesn't quite fit in. Hey BlueFrog, have you considered an Arsenic and Old Lace based kind of theme if you want Victorian and severed dead bodies? Those old sisters would have used a hack saw though; and with the sales still going on you might be able to pick up one of those pretty inexpensively right now.
