Came upon this link to some vintage halloween photos. I enjoyed them and thought you guys might too. The costumes while quite simple and tame compared to current year but still have what I think is an eerie, horrorific look to them. Can't exactly describe what makes them that way to me, but judge for yourself.

Some of those are pretty creepy. Could be the grainy black and white photography of the period. The masks are really cool. Some have a folk art look to them. I love that kind of stuff. Thanks for the link!

Ah yes...a friend of mine purchased this book recently and I looked through it pretty thoroughly. It is a subtly creepy, mysterious and beautiful work! And I had seen none of these photos reproduced anywhere else, every image was new to me. Pretty interesting, especially for people, of course, who already love the subject matter...

Those masks definitely creep me out. Some of them have the doll look to them and dolls are just creepy to begin with. It just shows that scary Halloween stuff has been around for a long time now.

Great pics! There's a certain elegance in their simplicity. Brings you back to a simpler time, when a good scare was (and still is) more a product of one's imagination rather than animatronics. Wonder what they'd think of today's motion/gore/creep fest?

Yeah, most of those certainly do have a rather creepy vibe. But this one is my favorite (seems a bit more whimsical, at least to me): http://entertainment.time.com/2011/1...#hauted-air-3a
