I noticed this while walking my dog thru the neighborhood today:
Why do the homeowners with the LEAST amount of Halloween decor in their yard take the LONGEST to take it down and store it??
I think of the hundreds of items I've put away in the past two weeks and they can't take 10 seconds to pull a Dollar Tree skeleton off a bush? Geez...

Funny, the other house in the cul de sac that decorated, had the homemade ghosts hanging from the gutter, took them down after my yard was swept clean

Yeah- so true. My neighbors are the same way. Their stuff is STILL out, all four things. Funnier still is that this is the second year in a row I've taken in an orphan tombstone that blew onto my property. Happened last year and this year as well. I think the tombstones in the neighborhood like my graveyard and run away from home to be in mine. Yes, it will have a good home in my graveyard next year! LOL!

Hey, I wouldn't complain! They could have a full xmas display out already like one of my neighbors... And they don't do anything for Halloween either... :/ I still would rather see black/orange than green/red any day!!!
A Halloween prop is a terrible thing to waste..

Haha. My wife and I were just making this observation yesterday.
“Do you know the terror of he who falls asleep? To the very toes he is terrified, because the ground gives way under him, and the dream begins.”

Funny, I was performing a job in a neighborhood Ive never been to today and noticed a rancid pile of rotting jack-o-lanterns down by the homeowners bushes. I immediately thought back to the twenty plus boxes of props and decor my son and I put in the attic earlier. I could only shake my head.

My husband and I had this EXACT same conversation last weekend. I came back from running errands all grumpy and when he asked what's wrong, I said we spent hours packing away all of our Halloween decor and our neighbors across the street still had their cardboard pumpkin (they didn't even carve a real one) staked in their lawn.

While my neighbour did have some Halloween decor out, it vanished in the blink of an eye only to be replaced by Santa and his reindeer Nov. 3rd! I can't complain too much though, as they at least they did something for Halloween, unlike many others in my neighbourhood.
Makes me want to set up some sort of display that incorporates Halloween & the Grinch. Not sure how many folks would get the social commentary though (present company excepted of course
).
We've always wondered: Why do Halloween decorations have to come down almost immediately while Christmas decor gets to stay up for ages (year 'round in some cases!)? What's up with that? If I'm putting in 60 hour work weeks right after Halloween, my decor will come down as soon as I have "free time", or at least am semi-conscious! And no, it only took us a week to get it all down. Had to give that Santa across the road some company!

I think we all notice these things because we put so much time and effort into our displays. We don't leave stuff out because we know it's value and when the holiday is over it's time to clean up. I break stuff down quick because after Halloween we're immediately into November and it's time to rake the leaves and clean up the yard. I also want to get it all packed away because Christmas is just around the corner. I won't decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving but I still need to clear out the workshop so I can fix lights and repaint the reindeer if necessary.
My one neighbor shocked me this year because she usually has her Halloween stuff up until the Christmas stuff comes out. I checked last weekend and it was already down. Only took 2 weeks to take in 2 tombstones and a couple of strings of orange lights. That must have been totally exhausting.
OTOH I've seen Christmas decorations stay up for months. Last year my one neighbor had a dead brown Christmas wreath on their door until May. I thought maybe they were saving it for the Halloween display.
...and other people are just lazy!
Boo!

Not here, I am the last to get everything put away. I still need to disassemble my boarded up window props.
