One thing I take away from this year (hope to post pics soon!) is how far compliments go to make all the work, turmoil, sweat, blood (in some cases muuuahhhahahaaaa...) go towards making it all worth it. It makes you feel like some type of Halloween immortal!. I got about 225 kids this year or around that, and it was nothing short of success. I heard comments ranging from "the best house in the city!" to "wow! this is amazing!" And also kids (and adults) going back through the haunt after candy just to ask to see the set up. I had the entire neighborhood fogged in lol, we could actually see clouds over us and in the distance creating some type of spooky effect over the entire neighborhood, which people loved has well. Despite my concerns with traffic haha..
This year was a tough one, has the entire northeast and mid atlantic states were hit with a "wintercane", has the local weather men called it due to the eye it formed off the coast. The day after it happened, while about 90 percent of the people around me in massachsuetts had no power, I was out shoveling the lawn off, must have had the only green lawn within 100 miles lol. Luckily, the city postponed trick or treating a week so everyone was able to enjoy it.
Looking at all your pictures and videos, I am amazed at the creativity of everyone and their work, your all great Halloween craftsmen and women, and I hope we all keep the Halloween Spirit alive and well has long as we can. Keep up the great work! :-)

Looking forward to seeing your pics Scotty! Sorry you had to deal with such intense weather but you know what they say, whatever doesn't kill you gives you great ideas for next year's props!

Thanks for the kind words. Your statement is a sentiment which I echo. Props to all! (Sorry, that's enough punishment!

YES! Those compliments fuel me, even after being open , taking customers through my house, The Ravens Grin Inn almost EVERY Night for almost these last 25 YEARS!
It is NOT about the munny, puny it is via the efforts, peculair efforts, sweat and long hours all being verbally appreciated and compliments from anyone at all, any age is cherished revered, thoroughly enjoyed by me.
Those happy, nice, fun-loving (the majority) sure helps keep me putting the rare sour-puss in the correct perspective and keeps providing the energy I need everyday and every night to keep on opening my drawbridge."My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"

I agree!! At the end of the day, the whole reason i do it is for other people. This year was especially challenging because we kept getting visits from the county for severakl complaints from the neighbors. Then a massive article came out in the Washington Post about the hatred for us, only to be followed by nasty comments in the comment section, messages on listserves, emails, etc. It made it very very hard to be creative when so much negative energy was being thrown at us! UGH!
But the success and attendance and smiling faces and loud screams brought back the positive energy and in the end made it all worth it.

Compliments are what keep me going too. Every year around October 29 I'm wore out and stressing over what needs to be done. I swear I'm not going to do it again. Then, after a successful Halloween night full of screams, laughs and genuine compliments, I'm rearing to go for next year.
This year my dad helped build our electric chair (sander style). Everyone loved the chair. Now, he's been bitten by the Halloween bug. He's asking me what we're going to build for next year.

Compliments and the look of astonishment (in a good way I mean) is what I live for no matter what the subject matter.
