To get an idea of where my display is at now, take a look at my 2011 display in my YT signature link.
So, during horror week they played an old campy movie Motel Hell. I LOVE this movie- always have. I saw it back in the 80's in the theatre and ever since, it's been one of my all time favs for well done campy horror. It occures to me that I could make a pretty decent display scene of this movie next year for a new scene addition. The heads under the bags in the lawn- the bags moving about. A sound track of the voices all scratchy because their vocal cords were slit to keep them quieter while 'planted'. The infamous chainsaw duel depicted, where one guy is wearing the pig head- the other in a cop uniform. I can think of a number of depictions in the overall scene to make a great motel hell set.
The question is- would anyone even recognize it or even get it. I think it would look cool on it's own, but it's a lot of scenic detail work to miss the mark if no one gets it. That's my dilema really when it comes to a yard display. People come up and ToT, have a look for a bit, and split. A lot of work goes largely unnoticed really, especially when you have a lot going on with a pretty large display. So I'm torn between a specific set, or keeping new additions generic enough to be easier.
Thoughts?

I am guessing that it would be mostly lost on the TOT's. One thing you could do is part of the display have a small tv with the movie playing. This may help people understand what you are going for.

I think it is an awesome idea!!! I'm the scenes origins probably will go right over the TOT's heads but who cares. They just want spooky. The aldults on the other hand should most definately get it! Even if they are too young for the original relase it is a horror cult classic. So it's a win/win, Somthing for the the kiddies and somthing for the adults. But regardless the seen is simply creepy as hell all on it's own! I hope you do it. I will be looking forward to seeing your results. Good luck.
Nothing beats a haunted moonlit night on
All Hallows Eve...
