Hey everyone!
Season after season I start to sound like a broken record here at the HF but these darn winds always screw up things for me!.. I have normal wind gusts that range from 30-85mph.. This always causes so much damage every single year like its a true ritual event. This year alone it cost me around $200-250 worth of lumber and/or supplies. This also does not count for my time invested putting things together with labor. Now my real fencing has so much damage that it must be completely replaced..
Who else here has to deal with these Chi-town type winds on a regular seasonal basis?

Raised hands... I do! I do!
This year was lucky, amazing weather. But last week, before we could put everything away, one day was very windy, but our tunnel held good. As the day after. we were dismantling it (it's a huge metal frame car canopy) we notice lots of metal tears in the pipes, from only that windy day. Thank God we ducktape the hell out of it, I think this what saved it!

They aren't quite that bad here normally, unless a thunderstorm blows in. But yes, up until two days before Halloween, we were getting 20-25 mph steady. Gusts in the 45 mph or so range. It's not comparable to 85 ofc...but it was bad enough to have damaged my St. Francis monument (with about 40 lbs of stone weighing it down) in a moment or two when I tried to do a quick mock up on Sunday. Nothing like last moment repair jobs. :/
I was lucky that it calmed down the day of though.

Ran, weirdly, we HAVEN'T had the Santa Anas this year. At least from what I can tell. Seriously. Very, very weird...maybe it's the Apocalypse?

Wow, so I am not alone here after all... Lol! I'll tell you this, that if one lives anywhere west of Rancho Cucamonga, CA they totally miss the wind vortex I live in... The local LA news stations always come up here down the street at I-15 to get a story... Either its toppled semi-trailers, tree's collapsing or downed power lines... Its always an issue every fall like clockwork! Well I only wish I could build a bubble to surround my home, I swear! That would be nice!...

Our winds get like that during the spring & summer. Normally, thunderstorms around here are in the 60-65 mph range. Some of the stronger ones will reach around the 80+ which are pretty tame, considering how many category 3+ hurricanes we see here per year, average. Lol! Tropical storms are nearly bi-weekly events around here during the earlier seasons of the year.
This is generally the time of year where everything calms down for a few months, although that seriously depends on temps. In the last decade, it's been getting cold earlier & earlier every year it seems. I can recall 30 years ago or more, when shorts on Christmas day was the norm. Now, here we are in November, and it's 26 F. outside. So much for the snowbirds coming south for the winter eh? Global warming? Yeah, ok.

Oh, it's no big deal really. You get used to it after living with it all your life.
I guess we're fortunate to have had decent weather on the day of Halloween actually. While the rest of the country was getting snowed on, we were having heavy rains and the winds in the week prior to. I know how ya feel though, repairing damage from my St. Francis monument being blown over the day during a mock up before the big night was no fun at all. Although you can't tell from the pics in my album, his head was broken into 12 pieces, and that's not counting the two(?) small pieces I couldn't find. Thankfully, the missing pieces are on the backside of his head, where you can't see them. You definitely have my sympathies, no doubt. *hugs*
