Just thought I'd share this... hopefully others can relate.
Many years ago I started decorating our front yard for halloween. It started with a few pumpkins and some fake spider webs, and grew each year from there. There was the graveyard scene, the witch stirring a bubbling cauldron, various bats and spiders, etc. My wife never quite "got" my obsession with all this, but she was politely supportive.
Then, in 2004, after two years in a row of having my exhibits vandalized (and some stuff stolen), I decided to move things indoors. We have two big bay windows in the front of our house, so I started setting up little exhibits. Each year, the exhibits got larger and more elaborate. And, each year, my wife has learned to dislike it a little bit more.
Here's my living room and dining room 49 weeks a year:
Here's my living room and dining room for the last 3 weeks of October:
I say "No Big Deal". We seldom actually eat in the dining room or sit in the living room. Oh, and this year, I took over part of the 2nd floor also. Had stuff set up in our older son's room (he's away at college), the guest bedroom (we had no guests) and the hallway bathroom (it rarely gets used).
All seems practical to me :-)
I guess she tolerates it for my sake, but I'm sure she secretly prays that I lose interest in this hobby...

First off, love the mid century modern decor! Maybe you can talk her into joing you! I am the Halloweiner at our house, and I am in the midst of the packing disaster as we speak. My husband tolerates it as long as I do all the work and it doesn't disturb his routine too much. LOL, I not only disturb the routine I flat out destroy it!!!
Good luck.

Love your window display - amazing! Sorry you don't quite see eye to eye. Honestly, I don't think it's too much of an infringement!

Thanks for all the kind words about my display, and the sympathetic words as well!
It would be nice if my wife shared my obsession (addiction?), but if this is the biggest problem we have, then I guess we're doing ok.
Now I have to start thinking about next year's display....
