So we had the big storm and Halloween was canceled and everyone has been waiting to see what the town was going to do. Tough situation as hundreds of homes still without power here since last Saturday. So we found out yesterday morning that the town was not going to re-schedule Trick or Treating. They had said several times during the week they would but now decided to do a trunk or treat next Saturday. That's great they are doing that but we had kept all our stuff up hoping to get some TOT's.
We already had family coming over to see the yard before we took it all down. After we found out the town's decision we decided for the heck of it to put up a sign. We grabbed left over pink board and made a sign saying TOT's welcome tonight after 6pm and figured if we got one or 2 kids that would be cool. After all it was already 10Am and who would see this sign except a few folks from our neighborhood.
....and then it started to happen.People stopped out front and tooted their horns asked if it was OK to bring kids by. One lady stopped on her way to the store and yells out the window "So, is it on!" I yell back "Absolutely" and she replies "Good!, Because we have got to put this thing to bed" She came back with her kids in costume later.
To our surprise at 6Pm kids just started showing up. By now my family is sitting around a firepit we have going in the driveway and cars start pulling up and more kids. Parents start coming up to us and telling us thank you so much for saving Halloween. Pretty soon one neighbor comes over and say please send the kids to our house too and then another neighbor says the same. More kids more parents and pretty soon there is 30 to 50 people hanging out in the front yard. At least 3 parents told me they were out and had been texted to get the kids to our house. The kids were so great and all of them were in their full costumes.
This is getting AWESOME!New this year singing pumpkins gathers a small crowd. The most kids we ever got was 50 on Halloween in the past. My wife made up 54 "Goodie Bags" with a couple glow sticks and 6 little candies. Around 8 she was scrambling to put together more. In the end we had 68 TOT's and people really stayed and wandered around. Really got to meet so many neighbors as they stayed longer and chatted. So many fantastic compliments and people thanking us for putting up the sign.
A decision was made last night to make a new gravestone for Winter Storm Alfred for next year. So doing that!
So despite what the calendar said we had Halloween Magic last night. It was incredible. So great to start putting things away on such a great note especially after such a mess up here. Well it was special. Just had to share this.
Happy Late Halloween From CT

What a great story, Nightlites13, thank you so much for putting it here. You and your wife deserve high praise for doing something kind that clearly meant a great deal to both children and their parents.
There's something wrong with me chemically, something wrong with me inherently.
