OMG, the Sun. before Halloween hubby was outside raking the leaves. Well, he had some pain in his back and it got slowly worse. He did great working with the children Halloween night but, then had to go into the docs office twice this week. I've been taking down decorations but, still have the crypt up in the front yard, my huge spider in the garage which needs to be hoisted into the rafters along with the cemetary fence. Found out hubby has a herniated disc and spurs on the spine. He will not even get an epidermal until sometime next week. He did get some pain pills but, they aren't working worth a darn. Now I have to figure out how to do all this myself and get my muscle car into the garage before it snows! This is NOT my year.

Anyone else having probs. this year too?

That's terrible Growler, and I'm sorry to hear of that. Do you have some neighbors (that enjoy your display) that might be willing to help get it done?

I've thought about what I would do (or not be able to do) if this happened to me. I was thinking it because my wife has what might be a disc issue too. She can hardly move and sleep at night. She's been to the doc and chiropractor but still investigating what it is. At least I've been okay to do all of the setting up and putting away.

Sorry for your husband and I hope he feels better as soon as he can.

Are there any other members nearby in Plymouth MN that could help out?

Sorry hear your wife is going through it. The pain is pretty rough on them. The neighbors are mostly retired or semi retires so they aren't much use. I was actually over helping my neighbor put in their storm windows on their patio deck. He can barely lift himself. No haunters around. I called our best men from our wedding last year and offered beer and a beef roast for next weekend. I'm hoping that will come through. Just my luck, when I'm thinking bigger is better for Halloween props.

Hope your wife can figure out what is wrong. It is a long and trying process to narrow it down.

Sounds like you have covered all the options, and come up with a very good plan. I hope it all works out. Best wishes again to your husband.

    Thank you Growler.

I'm wincing just reading this. Back problems are the most painful thing I've ever had to endure and I didn't even slip a disc. Recovery takes a long time and the exercises needed are also very painful (but necessary to ever get over it). Best wishes to both of your spouses.

As someone who has endured four herniations through her life and spent a combined 12 months in bed flat on her back over this issue - and endured pain usually only seen on burn units - my best to your husband, and just be glad he isn't screaming in pain every time he changes position in bed.

Decorations are serious business - but a bad back problem is just short of life-and-death bad. Cut yourself and him some slack; DONT FORCE THIS ISSUE. It can and will get worse if forced, and no spider in the garage is worth it. AND DONT HURT YOURSELF TRYING TO DO IT ALONE. You just leave that spider alone till you can get some help. You just go buy yourself a cheap car-cover till this situation can be fixed. Please dodge some real horror called "badly herniated disks." Your husband will tell you, aint nothing worth that!

Surely there is a neighborhood kid big enough to help you out in exchange for some pumpkin cupcakes? Definitely give your husband plenty of time to heal. It's amazing how much pain these things can cause. You'd think there'd be some built-in limiter for pain... pain is important but it's no good if it disables you to the point you can't even move (or breathe)!

"Lift with your legs, not your back!" "Well great, now my legs hurt!" "Better than your back!"

Thanks guys for the warm wishes. He read me the report this morning and he has quite a list of things wrong with the back. Herniated disk, spurs, and a couple more disks that could be the same or near to. That means if it's not hurting now, it's just a matter of time. I've got an inversion table already so I'm going to try and push him to use that. He has shrunk about 6 inches in the last couple years with his age, 64. We go for the epidurmal today so that should be fun. I'm hoping it will give some relief.

I wish we had an older child to help out. There are two guys in high school but, they will not even cut their own grass! Their mothers have to go out and do it. Lasiest children I've ever seen. The rest are all in elementary school. Over the last few years we had a big influx of new families.

After contacting our best men from our wedding they are coming over on Sat. to help out for a few hours. I bribed them with beer and a homemade beef roast with the fixings. lol Now I just have to clean the house.

Sorry to hear about your husbands back problems. My cousin's husband took a nasty fall on thick ice a couple of winters ago and herniated a disk in his back and is still out of work. Just be prepared if they operate on his back. My cousin's husband had to have two emergency surgery's after the first one because of infections and had to be rushed by ambulance to the hospital after clasping at home on to different occasions.

No. Every last bit of my haunt went into the garbage save for the 1-2 items that are used year round and the one piece I wanted to keep(my Crystal Lake sign).

Can't use it next year or the year after so right in the trash.
