Thread: The Haunted Garden 2011 from Silver Spring MD

Hello! I am new here. I just said hi over in "introduce yourself." Checking out everyone's haunts. TOTAL AWESOMENESS.

I just designed and directed a MASSIVE yard haunt on 1/4 acre called The Haunted Garden. It was our 2nd year. We had about 2,000 people over the course of 5 nights. We probably spent over $10,000 in production costs this year. We were featured in a very controversial article in The Washington Post, were featured on News Channel 8 and other random websites.

We had 8 exhibits including:
Altar of the Vampyre
The Cemetery
The Witch's Bubbling Brew(with a dry ice filled pond)
The Lagoon
The Haunted Woods
The Zombie Horde
The Ship of Lost Souls
The Organist
as well as 2 campfires and a kid friendly area so they left happy to some extent lol

We had theatrical lighting, music for each exhibit, special f/x, live actors and a whole rack of neighbors trying to shut us down. We prevailed.

Please check it out! It is my best work EVER. I handmade all the signs using wood, a Dremel, stain, glitter and paint.

The county kept taking our signs away, so that could be one reason.

OMG!! Raina!! I was hoping you'd find this place!!

I saw the article in the Washington Post & I'm sorry that some folks just don't get it & never will. You weren't doing anything illegal & that one guy in the comment section was ridiculous. If he'd wanted to live in a nice, quiet residential community where people don't put up Halloween or Christmas or anything then he should move to a gated, guarded community with iron clad HOA rules regarding such things & not just any neighborhood in Silver Spring. Or start his own community with his own rules. I'm not sure where you'd find a place like he's talking about, in fact I don't know if it exists anywhere. Maybe he just needs to move to the middle of nowhere so he won't be bothered by other people in general.

I'd even composed a wonderful reply to that troll but when I hit post it disappeared. Dis. a. ppeared!! I was so angry I just couldn't rewrite it all over again. It's happened to me more than once on the site since they changed everything.
