Thread: Need opinion for Halloween night ToTers

Ok so here is my thoughts and I wanted to get opinions because this is the first time I am doing this... I was going to be outside when the ToTers come sitting near my graveyard. (I usually wait inside while they are coming around until they ring the doorbell) I am really thinking of getting a fog machine so I'd be near the porch, sounds going, fog machine.. grim reaper in the graveyard, assorted ghosts and I'd have my cauldron... would just get them to come up to me to get the candy. I am dressing as a witch this year so I will blend in with my outdoor haunt. Basically I will be part of the display. What do you all think? Do any of you do this? Wait outside for them to come up?

My TOT's have to go all the way to the back of the haunted cemetery to get their treats, But I have multiple live characters keeping them on track and off the props. THey seem to really get into it when we are part of the display and it's not just the path to a door bell.

Yes, I am always outside handing out treats. Partly, because it's more fun to be in the middle of everything than to be jumping up and down every three minutes to answer the door, and partly so I can keep them from going through the middle of my yard and tripping over cords and such.

I see it working either way.

For me, because of the fact that me greeting them at the door is the climax to their trip through the display, I have to stay inside with the door closed. So, I use the peephole to know when they are coming up. Also, I use fencing and caution tape to keep them from wandering off the path to the front door.

Thanks for all your thoughts. I can tell you if I am sitting outside I need to go to Spirit tomorrow and buy a heavy cloak or cape. It's cold out. I can't believe we have one more day! Thanks again everyone! Will have to post pics of me outside

I'm too tired to hand out candy, so I just sit out front and admire the hard work and get a couple hours rest, so I can tear it all down.

The person that does hand out the candy is in the garage sitting next to the heater

our sidewalk leading to the door is narrow for the amount of kids we get so we always set up in the driveway and myself a neighbor and a friend all sit outside at a table at the top of the driveway

Easier to wait for them outside by my front door. That way I can also see what props are liked the most along with keeping an eye on everything. If you sit in the shadows you can spook some of the kids.

I like the outside idea. As you said, you can be part of your display! I think I will try it this year too so I'm not sitting inside missing out on the fun

We used to be inside, but started going outside several years ago. Much more fun!
