BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — Police in Bellingham, Wash., say a man who walked into a medical clinic with his right arm severed indicated he cut his own limb off with a homemade guillotine.

Officers checked a wooded area near the urology clinic Thursday and found the severed arm and guillotine in a transient camp. The victim and the arm were taken first to St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham.

Police spokesman Mark Young says the man was later airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in hopes the limb could be reattached. Young tells The Bellingham Herald the arm was severed above the elbow.

The victim was not identified. Harborview spokeswoman Susan Gregg-Hanson said the man is in serious condition Friday in the intensive care unit. She couldn't say whether his arm had been re-attached.

Why did he have a guillotine with a blade sharp enough to sever a limb?!

May have nothing to do with Halloween - may be all the protests. Comments about constructing guillotines in financial markets have become common these days, months before the Occupy movements began, perhaps a lone nutbag took it too seriously?

On a lighter note, hey, now we know who to turn to if we need one that works.

I have the same attitude toward guillotines that I have towards large crosses - If you build one, at least use the thing.
