Okay, so you all know how important music is in a haunted house, right? It sets the mood, adds to the atmosphere, and is an absolute staple in any haunt. Well, two days ago, I went to this haunted supermarket with my son, and it was the first haunted house I have ever been to that had me SCREAMING my head off. I have always, Always laughed my way through haunted houses, paused in certain rooms just to admire the decor, and screamed once or twice mainly as a way to applaud a good act, versus actually being scared. But this one was different. I was moving forward as quickly as possible just to find my way back outside where the gentle moonlight awaited. The craziest thing is that it had absolutely no music, hardly any actors, and no theme whatsoever. So what made it so scary? Well, to start off, we had to crawl in certain areas, which I have heard people say is a definite dislike in their book of haunts, but it made me feel extremely vulnerable. Add this to the fact that it was pitch dark, I mean so dark that I couldn't even see my own hand if I had touched my nose with it. And lastly, the walls made absolutely no sense, and twisted and turned into a maze of confusion. I was left to blindly find my way through the maze while my imagination raced, absolutely raced, down its own dark corridors of fears....and I cannot think of anything scarier than that....

Where was it? What was it called?

Sounds intriguing, shadowless. Imagination is far more terrifying than anything that can be manufactured the majority of the time, in my opinion; playing on claustrophobia, fear of what is lurking in the darkness, and the like is often more effective than the most expensive animatronic.

Sounds great! My personal opinion has been less is more. Plant the seed in the mind and let imagination do its thing!
And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting

It was Linn's Supermarket in Des Moines. Agreed, the idea of a haunted supermarket sounds really lame, and I wasn't expecting much. The sole reason we had picked it was because it was the ONLY haunted house open on a Tuesday night within a 200 mile radius. Boy were we in for a surprise!!!

sounds like a haunted house we went to years ago. It was nothing elaborate, very few actors, and there were sections that were nothing but pitch black mazes.
