well, if your coworkers would start shooting the bastards, then the problem might be resolved....until there are consequences, the problems will continue

@Scatter.. hahah.. that's great. Two for one deal.. they steal, you cut off their hand and it becomes a decoration for Halloween, plus you caught them so you should get your decoration back! lol.

Tough talk. I'm in my third neighborhood with outdoor decorations. Best luck was with a fully fenced yard. The chain-link fencing didn't detract too much from lighted displays. What I've found is that even in a given location, the vandalism doesn't last - it stops when the varmints get bored. Secondly, vigilant neighbors help a lot. And finally, the fenced yard was because it was a corner lot and I liked to let my dogs run loose - they never bothered either Halloween or Christmas displays and their presence deterred both theft and vandalism - ya never knew when I'd open the door and just let the dogs out to jealously guard their yard.

I was in Saudi Arabia in 2001, and they may have their problems but you have to love their legal system. When I got there, I saw a bunch of students from the university in Riyadh out protesting. I asked my sponsor what they were protesting, and he told me a man had raped two young girls going to school there, and he had been sentenced to death. I thought they were upset over the death penalty but then I found out they were upset because the guy was scheduled to be beheaded downtown and the students wanted him executed on the campus since he had attacked their fellow students. The next day the campus police were protesting because they wanted to shoot the guy instead of the state's axeman doing the job. The authorities relented and the guy was executed by firing squad on the campus.
I also found out that getting your hand cut off for stealing only happens if you are found to be redeemable, and most thieves get beheaded. That's the only place I've ever gone to where you could leave cash laying out on the table of your hotel room and be sure it would be there when you got back. There were no repeat offenders, or escalating criminals over there."Spit's all that's holding me together right now too!" James Whitmore, Them!
