Just do the right thing and keep your kids home on Halloween. It should be a holiday anyways. My kids have never gone to school on Halloween, and never will.

Schools in my neck of the woods did away with celebrating Halloween about 6 years back. Now they may have a "Fall Harvest" day. No costumes, no Halloween decorations. Its rediculous.

Yep, Halloween is all gone from schools. My husband's best memory is of a Halloween Festival at his school- bobbing for apples, cake walk, costume contest.

I don't understand why they have banned such celebrations!

Yup! Interesting isn't it, although the parochial schools don't have to comply with some of the school district mandates. When my kids were in grade school, (also parochial schools) Halloween was celebrated big time! Costume parades, games, parties in the classrooms, decorations. The teachers all dressed up and participated as well. Our public schools still celebrate to a degree with the yonger kids being allowed to dress up. If I was the parent of a young kid today, I'd likely keep them home as well, if Halloween celebrations were banned. PC BS!!!

It's not completely gone from schools. Our local high school always has a special halloween themed pep rally on the friday before halloween. It's all done with only blacklights and strobes. The cheerleaders always do a dance routine to Rob Zombie, dressed in full zombie atire, the drill team usually does Thriller, and the band will be in costumes of their choice. It's a lot of fun. My son's senior year, Halloween was on a friday so it was a game night. The band wore their costumes throughout the game and during their halftime marching show. It was awesome!

Our elementary school still has a parade around town, then a Halloween party. The older kids can where a costume as long as there are no masks and weapons.I guess we are lucky here.

My daughter's elementary school is allowing Halloween costumes to be worn all day for the first time in at least 10 years! No play weapons or masks of course, but a giant leap in the right direction.
    Undead and loving it!

Well, I'm a new parent. Last year my kid was in kindergarten and the allowed costumes. This year they're saying no costumes to "avoid distractions". Sad. How much distraction is there really? It's Halloween!
