So, first the "aww" (it's kind of a yay moment too) I'm apparently living in the wrong neighborhood! Just ONE cul de sac over, there are six houses dressed right up for halloween (ok, by this forums standards, we'll call it a bit of decorating, for where I live I'll call it decked out) on my cul de sac, we are the only ones that do anything....so Aww but still yay that people are doing it at all! now for the YAY; went for a very decent stroll today while pushing my two year old on his push tricyle thingey, and WOW! so happy~! looks like more and more people are getting back into halloween around here! Yes, it may just be an occasional pumpkin or plastic skull stakes, but we saw a LOT more than last year done to the yards in this area
I'm so thrilled~! Maybe it's slowly coming back!!! Also, my son Dean definitely takes after me! He was pointing, getting super excited, and would say "YOOK!!! Ha-ha-Halloween!" (yook is look and he says halloween because when he sings "this is halloween" he actually just says "ha ha halloween") every time we saw some decorations
heck, he even got excited over the orange construction sign down the street haha
Just wanted to share my little tale of excitement over seeing more decorating than last yearmy yard is still the only decorated one in our round about though

Keep doing what you do and soon your cul de sac might follow!

I hope so! I mean, really, last year was our first halloween in this place, so I'm hoping soon things will change, it does make me feel good though...one kid down the street keeps coming by every day to see what's been done, and to ask if uncle charlie has come yet (told him about how we ordered uncle charlie from spirit for this years carnival haunt)
Makes my day to see him excited! It's also hard to have too high of hopes for our street, most people are renters that work crazy shifts out at the oil plants, so most aren't even home on halloween night.

That's great that you're seeing more houses decorated.
I've seen more decorations in my neighborhood this year than I've ever seen. Maybe I'm rubbing off on them, too!
Hopefully your neighbors don't feel they can't compete with you, and fail to decorate. I always hate when people say that.
I get tired of looking at my own stuff all the time.

Good to hear others are decorating and your little one is so excited. We have the Halloween House in the neighborhood and I agree with Dave, I'm sick of seeing only my stuff. One neighbor has a pumpkin out, another has a wood luminary, and another has one small string of ghosts/pumpkin lights. That is in a about a 6 block radius.
I like doing up Halloween in a big way but, I really would hate to think I'm discouraging others to do anything.

I don't think I would be discouraging, what we do isn't that crazy. As I said, I live in a "renters" area (we are one of the few that own in our little round about) so not a lot of people bother even turning their light on. Last Halloween, I took my boys only to four houses in our area, this year I will head into the next cul de sac
so they can enjoy all the decorations! We live in a city that is go go go, and there are sooooo many crazy shifts that people work that sooo many people just don't bother. It makes me sad
But, very happy to see more decor this year popping up! I also think it may have something to do with a Spirit finally opening here locally (I got a very part time job working for them, and I was thinking I was going to spend so much there...as it turns out, I saw how often the stuff breaks, and how cheap a lot of it is
but yeah, we don't have a lot of options available for shopping, and so with the spirit opening, I think it kind of jump started some people
My neighbor loved our yard last year, and came over and video taped it, but his wife isn't really into much, so he doesn't bother.

I've been seeing a lot more decor out this year and plan to snap pics of the people in my general neighborhood over the weekend. One lady who has a home daycare put out her cute little graveyard on Monday.

Decorating is contagious. My first year in our house we were the only ones decorating on our block. The next year there were a few more. Now, 25 years later, you can count the homes NOT decorating on one hand. I'm no longer the most decorated, and I'm not disappointed because I know I started it all. Before my lighted Jack-o-lanterns and blow molds, the only thing you'd see was a pumpkin or stack of corn stalks few and far between. Now the whole neighborhood (with few exceptions) gets into the act and there are displays with sound and music and even 'fog'.

I'd decorate outside except for two things....
1. My light clips aren't here yet I had to buy off e-bay because NOBODY in town had nail-on types!!!
2. The two giant trees right outside my balcony are still covered in leaves!!! You can't see squat. I put a jack-o-lantern in my dining window all anxious to see it about 15 minutes ago....and you can't see it through the trees either!!!!
ARRRGGGGHHHHHH!

moony1--I thought about you and your son today. I showed your original post to my wife last week since she likes the cute stuff that kids do. So we're driving today and suddenly she goes, "Yook! Ha! Ha! Halloween!" as we pass through a construction zone.
