Few Quick questions...
I know we all decorate our residences, (some more than others)...especially with lights...
You might play some spooky loud sound effects on the 31st...
You might just stand outside of your place, in costume, doing your best dying zombie impression...( as I)
But (if weather permits/ fingers crossed)
Do you have any tips on how to attract tons of Trick-or-Treaters?
Or do you just let the atmosphere and decor speak for themselves?
Does anyone go out of their way on Hallows Eve to get more TOTS?
We all know the kids want to go to the 'decorated' house, cause that means Candy!
Plus, we know a well lighted, decorated house, makes the parents feel at ease.
I think decorating early helps...but other than that
what else can be done to attract tons of TOTS?

The word getting out about your full sized candy bars attracts them. Also it does not hurt that a Spirit Halloween store manager keeps telling people about your haunt. lol

I put out flyers at the grocery store, Walgreens and the The family Dollar store in our neighborhood. I hope between that, word of mouth and drive by (walk by) that our numbers will be up this year.

Not really. This is only my 2nd year putting up anything. It is much better than last year but still not of the caliber of the folks on here. There just isnt anyone around here that deocrates so I just wanted the kids to know they can come here. Your display is great!!!

I've been thinking of putting up flyers but mine isnt really a haunt its more of a display no walk thru no actors scaring kids so I wasn't sure if flyers would be appropriate any thoughts?
Where's the kaboom? There was supposed to be an earth-shattering KABOOM!!

I tried something last year and this year I will see if it pays off. In each candy bag I put a note saying our haunt gets bigger each year and to come after dark for the best views and scares, and the street we're on so they remember. It's my hope that note has been stuck on many fridges this past year- maybe even talked about with other people to increase the traffic. I had 100 last year. I'll see if that number increases. I think it's mostly word of mouth. I don't like to put up flyers, personally. I don't need to attract a ton of strangers. It's only a display, albeit elaborate. As long as the local surrounding blocks catch on that can amount to a lot of traffic.
I do all that too. In fact I have a BLAST roaming around in costume. That gets attention! Also this year, along with a bag of candy each person is getting a glow bracelet. Picked them up in Michael's. That will be one more thing to take away that lasts for a bit, from that really cool haunted house that we MUST go to next year!I know we all decorate our residences, (some more than others)...especially with lights...

I live in a community neighborhood that is patrolled by the cops on Halloween night. That in itself attracts Trick-or-Treaters. It makes parents feel safe. There is a big apartment complex near the entrance of my neighborhood and parents will park cars on the main road in my neighborhood to take their kids trick-or-treating. So those on the main drag get more traffic than us down cul-de-sacs. What I have working in my favor is that our cul-de-sac is a short one. I have lots of lights that you can see from the top of my street with the strobe light going. Even though this is a neighborhood where people are constantly coming and going... those who have lived here a long time know that I add at least 1 - 2 new props of some kind to my yard each year. Many will come to see what we add.
I did the glow necklaces one year and it's a big hit. But we already have a lady in our neighborhood who is known as the "glowstick Lady". so I feel funny with raining on her parade. This year... I'm giving out small cans of playdough along with candy. Gonna see how that does. I'm also going to have a cooler full of beer and wine coolers for the adults.

If you have a community newsletter or website, post in there... that way you'll get the word out within your neighborhood anyway.
