Does anyone else out there live in an area where they get no visitors or Trick-or-Treaters?

I live on a very long road that has smaller neighborhoods honeycombed off of it, but I'm not in one of them. In fact, I'm "on" the main road (as in, my driveway spills out onto it, and my mailbox is situated on it), but I'm so far back in the woods that you can't even see my house from the road. Our driveway is about a 1/4 of a mile long and very twisty and dark. Like I said, way back in the woods.

So obviously we never get any ToTs or even any visitors. As such, my husband doesn't really want to waste the time or money on major decorations. It also doesn't help that we're in one half of a duplex, and while our neighbors are young and fun, they don't really decorate at all.

So I can't help feeling lonely and left out when all of you guys are talking about your awesome yard haunts and decorations, and having ToTs. Does ANYONE else have this kind of problem too?

Can you "hook up" with a friend or friends and help them? Could you go work in a haunted house? I'd be trying to find SOMEWHERE to go where you could "celebrate" in style!

Not now, but we were in a similar situation when we lived in CA. We were in the middle of a private drive with no children around, and in a rural area. Oddly enough, that's when I really started decorating. It wasn't much, but I loved it. The funny thing is, our first year in that house, we actually got a ToT. Unfortunately, they arrive just after I had gotten home from work(yay retail), and our doorbell was twitchy and didn't always work. DH and I heard a car door close, ran to the door, only to see the car drive away. All we had that year was a single JOL, and a porch light. I still feel bad for that kid, they would have been hooked up!

Besides my love of the holiday, I'm now beginning to think that is what drove me to start decorating. I wanted people to see our house from the main road, and to come and get treats. Of course, no one came after that.

We were on a hill, and surrounded by pasture, so decorations were more easily justified. We weren't on the way to anywhere, which made it hard for people to come visit. Have you thought of maybe just having a small party? I know it sucks hanging out waiting for the ToT that never comes, but that may help scratch the itch.

Zero TOT's every year for me in my little community, so I decided to make my own Halloween fun. I put on a big party or charity haunt every year the weekend before Halloween. I invite family and friends and have never had less than 100 to attend. My son and I have our Halloween rituals of decorating, movie watching, candy eating, etc. so I make sure we never are lonely due to no TOTs! Could you do something for family and friends and have everyone enjoy the season with you and your husband?

We've been getting less and less every year, I remember when I was a kid there'd be packs of kids roaming, and late teens there'd still be about 20-30 showing up. Now we're lucky to break 10, and last few years was more like 5. Apparently about 15 years ago people completely stopped having kids and nobody moved into the neighborhood at all or has grandkids visit during October. :P

I decorate the inside of my house because our house in waaaay off a road, too, and we don't get ToT's or visitors. However, I throw a huge outdoor party every year for my kids and we invite their whole 2 classes and parents. It's a surrogate for Halloween night with the ToT's, but it's ok with me because I like taking the kids out myself anyway.

We only get about 30 children until last year. We got over 100. And it only took about 15 years to draw them in. Word of mouth is slow it seems. Anyways....can you bring the haunt to them? Get everything you want done and run the extension cords out to the spot by the road. Then that morning decorate a full scene by the road. Make it fun for them but, also for yourself for when the children aren't coming by. Set up a table and chairs for yourself and maybe a portable tv to watch or a deck of cards. This way the children can come by with their parents (most likely driving) and stop and enjoy everything you did for them. I would love to live on a long driveway but, it's just too far for children to go for a couple pieces of candy and way too much like a real horror flick about to happen. lol Texas Chainsaw massacre, Hills Have Eyes, etc. etc. Also, a lot of people don't want to drive in and have the hassle of turning around or backing out if they have to.

Despite there being slightly over 220 townhomes in our development, last year I saw only 12 or 13 TOTs. Though I did have to leave for about 15 minutes, to drive my brother-in-law to the train station. May have had a few others come to front door while out, where I had quickly zip-tied a basketful of candy, illuminated with 2 of those LED clip-on lights. (Surprisingly, there was still a lot of candy remaining when I returned.)

I did a quick search of Williamsburg, VA and quickly found MANY ways to get your Halloween fix....There are TONS of ghost tours obviously being a colonial town and if you want things that jump out of the dark and say BOO! = Howl-O-Scream should do the trick at Busch Gardens....That's how I personally have my fun, by going to the local events such as these....Last weekend, me and the wife went to a haunted house at a campground and this weekend we are going to a haunted trail/haunted barn at another campground....I can't begin to tell you how much fun we have going to these things...Then afterwards we get hot chocalate and stand by the bon fire before returning home....We also have a Halloween party with friends and family that is fun though we aren't having one this year due to my work schedule....That's why it's even more important that we go do those attractions this year because I don't feel like we missed out on Halloween after we get home with the funny stories to tell....ZR

Sorry you have a lonely Halloween. Maybe you could find a local haunted house and spend the evening there?
