I found a way to get more houses on my street to decorate. Today i hosted a prop making party for a few of the neighborhood kids. We made styrofoam tombstones [and a JoL cut out]. there are some pics are in this album.

One girl left before we got the photos shot but i'll get a pic of her tombstone when they get it put up in her yard. I also did an impromtu cemetery sign and will shoot a photo of it when it gets put up. 6 kids, 5 tombstones, 1 JoL and a cemetery sign to decorate 3 houses. another of the neighbors might bring over his little girl later in the week becasue she couldn't come today. A lot of glitter got used [a LOT of glitter]--my sister commented that the Freddy Kruger tombstone looked more like Freddie Mercury--but everyone left happy.

Hah! That's awesome. I've considered doing a make-and-take with friends before but never the neighbour kids. Great idea.

All the kids look thrilled. What a great way to spread the Halloween spirit (and inadvertently, glitter) ALL over the neighbourhood.

It was a lot of fun. As a general rule i'm against glitter. it's like herpes--once you got it it is there forever and anything that touches it gets it too. but 4 of the 6 kids are girls and 3 of them are in the princess phase so i knuckled under and got some black and some silver glitter paint. I sort of drew the line at pink because, well, i just couldn't compromise my standards with ink glitter paint. I learned a lot doing this and I think i want to do it again next year. I don't know if I'll do tombstones again [you can never have too many and I have a pipe dream about making the neighborhood once giant cemetery, but i digress] or if I'll have a pumkin carving party or maybe make groundbreakers.

What a great thing to do! Looks like they had a good instructor, some really nice tombstones there. I'll bet those kids will remember this forever. And who knows they might be future HF members!

What a great idea! The tombstones look wonderful and I agree the kids will never forget this.

Our Hobby Lobby has workshops all the time where people sign up and pay a fee and make things. I could see something like your little workshop being a great Halloween thing for years to come and a way to make a little money (not from friends or neighbors) but maybe for other people.

Maybe we should all try to do some type of workshop next year and charge a small fee plus have people bring their own supplies. We could make one big donation to some cause in the name of the Halloween forum.

I gave my sister a couple left over tombstones for the daughters of one of her friends who will be visiting her later this month. I gave her a handful of templates, a list of silly epitaphs, and taught her to use spray paint to etch the styrofoam so the kids will have a fun time at her mini workshop. My wife ran into a couple of other neighbors whose kids already had other commitments for that day and I'm going to drop off some ready to finish projects so they don't feel left out. It also helps me get rid of the pieces I used to demonstrate paint etching. the designs I had on hand are too cute for my personal taste.

I'll have to think about the best way to do a make-and-take for charity.

What a sweet thing to do for the neighborhood kids. The stones look great and I must think about using glitter too
