It's a classic "which came first..." scenario. Retailers aren't going to stock more/better stuff until people start buying stuff pre-Halloween. There's a reason why the Christmas stuff comes out so early, and that's because people buy a ton of it before the holiday so it's worth carrying.

Our local news channel, KTVU, just ran a story on this report as well. Nice to see it getting coverage and that sales are expected to be their highest in recent years. Hopefully it will translate into buyers for next year's merchandise placing more orders and searching out cooler stuff that they think will increase sales. That would be goood news as well for costume and prop makers.

Halloween spending has been going up each year even during this recession and spending over all was worse the last couple of years than this year so I don't see why spending would not be up again this year. Stores have had stuff out for over a month here and some places are starting to run short on stock.
