The part of the story that I find most disturbing is that the city seems to be focused on the permit and not on the inspection. If the city actually inspected the structure, and it is not clear that they bothered, it might show that they do indeed have a valid safety concern. Instead, the city seems stuck on the permit. A possible answer for the haunt may be to contact a food bank or other charity about getting help finding a place for the haunt. The neighbor who complained could have talked to these guys before being a jerk about it.

ABC7 just did another news story on the haunt tonight and said that the City made a final determination that the haunt had to come down or they apparently would face " ghoulish" fees as the news team referred to it. I wonder what the fees would be. Also wonder if they could open it up early before their deadline. All that said i would hope the structure would be safe. So far they aren't reporting anyone stepping forward to offer up additional space.

    Love your photos Tillson!

FREMONT (CBS SF) – Halloween is still weeks away, but already a popular Haunted House in Fremont is being forced to close its doors after the city called it a public safety hazard.

For the past seven years, Chris Stelle has transformed his parents backyard into an elaborate haunted house for Halloween. Thousands of friends and neighbors have been through the annual freak show.

Here's a link to the thread started on Monday of this SF bay area haunt. It's nice to see it getting coverage but it doesn't look good for them.

Sorry, GOS, I didn't see the earlier thread! I know double posting is annoying!

7 years this haunt has been running, and suddenly it is a public danger?

the city is just pissed that it didn't get it's $$$ for permit application. They could probably fight back by taking down the structural elements that are cited in the cease and desist order and use the "rope and plastic tarp method"...this way there is no structure there...

either way I think it is really wasteful on the city's part and just plain sh!tty that someone with such a passion for this has been shut down when they really are doing a good thing.
