I was thinking of handing out freshly made cotton candy for halloween.
Not sure how that would go over.
When I was a kid they was a guy who did this. I always thought it was a cool idea.
I live in a complex. last couple yrs I gave away 240 treat bags. As I understand it , kids from the surrounding area are dropped off in our complex for a night of one stop shopping.
it would be fun and cheaper.
Just concerned if the kids would be allowed to eat it.
any thoughts?

Sounds cool! Since everyone would see you making it, I suspect that the "fear" issue would be mitigated. Some folks still wouldn't let their kids eat it - some out of fear, some because their little darlin' would end up a sticky mess! But I think they'd be the exception - go for it!

Sounds grand to me! Love cotton candy. I've seen mini cones before; they would be perfect. I might steal this idea, if that's ok. We pass out glow necklaces. They're big hits ever year, but I'm bored with them. Yea, I know, it's not about me, but cotton candy is fun! Great idea.

Neighborhoods are different -- I would give it a try and see how well it goes over. I am sure if you do it one year that people will become more accustom to it in following years, eventually coming to expect it. You'll become the Cotton Candy Man.
By me there is a guy who makes donuts .. people were a bit skeptical the first year but he has been doing it now for over a decade and his driveway is one of the most crowded come Halloween.

well, I would definatly be making it in front of them. And I expect i will not be able to keep up at some points.
But also during the slow periods I expect i would have to bag the extra.
I am somewhat new to making cotton candy and have only made it with a "full load" of floss.
I guess i could experiment with how much floss I add. try to estimate how many cones during the slow periods.

Iceman, I would definitely make some before hand so I get the method and ingredients down pat and hit the ground running on Halloween. Just a thought, maybe you want to look into getting a bunch of plastic or cellophane bags so you could package the cotton candy when you give it to the kids so they can eat it at a more convenient time.

I forsee a lot of cotton candy tossed in the trash that night. I wouldn't go to the trouble. There are small prepackaged bags of cotton candy you could give out.

I plan to hand out some, we got about 40 tots last year, so I found a website that makes the candy and will have it package sealed, so any paranoid parents can feel at ease. I plan to put custom stickers on them saying "rotten candy" to go along with my new clown prop (who will be stirring a big cauldron of cotton "rotten" candy. )
