ok..so my sleep deprived crazy a** was up at 6:30 this morning trying to figure out what to put in the yard in front of my witches shack..besides of course well... witches..lol..anyway..i decided to build 2 kid cages...one i will have a cutsey lil girl in a Halloween costume in it with a knife in her hand ( already had this made for a zombie playground I decided not to do) with a name plate on the outside..the other will be empty except for some rats and a skeleton and a vacancy sign on the outside.....what do you think? Is it too much?? Just plain stupid?? Be gentle... I am not creative and this is my first year setting up a haunt.

yeah....i think she should be a victim rather than a killer...being the killee is always being worse than being the killer

General rule of thumb is if you are asking if it is too much, chances are you feel that way yourself. The above suggestions are all good. It is basically Hansel and Gretel retold so the idea itself is not too much.

I like the ideas we all have...
They call me the Evil One.... Am I that evil?

I like the empty cage with the 'vacancy' sign idea. If you take the knife away fromthe little girl, name her Gretl. Adults and ids will get the reference and it's not too scarey--even little kids know the story--but it is still kind of creepy. if you leave the knife in her hand, call it the time out cage and say she was 'misbehaving' or maybe that she 'doesn't play well with others'. Understatement is useful.

I considered building a ToT'r cage this year. But just don't have the time for it. I like the vacancy sign detail.

I also like the idea of making her a victim. If it were me....I would set a table and a bowl in the other cage with a big sign that said FREE CANDY and decorate the whole thing to really emphasize that it is a child trap.

PURE Genius!!! I was trying to think if a way to make it obvious that Hansel had already met his doom. I think I would also decorate that little manger thing back there with candy and lollipops, etc to make it the witch's gingerbread house. I am LOVING this idea....
