I know I haven't even set up this years haunt or even finished all the props but I like to think ahead. LOL After reading through a bunch of these threads I was amazed at some of the themes and such that people went with. So I started just brain storming on cool things to do. I wasn't even focused on things for myself to do just simply cool ideas if someone did them. And all of a sudden it came to me. You watch the history channel and all they seem to talk about is the 2012 end of the world on most days. And sadly there are a lot of people (including my mother sadly) who completely believe that the world is gonna end in Dec. of 2012. And that led me to think how cool it would be to play on those peoples fears with a cool end of the world theme.
A foam recreation of the Mayan calender stone that the whole theory is based on would be awesome. And of course any end of the world prophecy would fit nicely. The four horsemen of the apocalypse. The dead rising from their graves. Who knows what wonders could be created. What do you guys think? I just wish I had the kind of money to be able to completely redo my themes on a year to year basis. Cause I think this one would be a little to costly for me to change out to.

OMG! That's a great idea!!! LOL
If I hadn't already gotten my hopes up about doing a nightmare theme, I would totally do an end of the world theme next year! It would be perfect!
I'm going to have to find a way to incorporate that into the nightmare theme. Shouldn't be too hard. Though the idea of making the horsemen is a bit daunting... But the Mayan calendar shouldn't been too difficult to replicate with some polyfoam boards, just gotta find a good pic of it.
I say do what you can between now and then, if you already have a theme picked out for next year, it's much easier to spread out the costs for the haunt through the whole year.
And this is just too good an idea to pass up! ... Though I doubt your mom will appreciate it. Hehehehe (Especially when you mockingly show her pics of your haunt in January of 2013. *evil laugh*)

I'd say go for it! If done right it could be very spooky indeed if you could pull together the themes of the apocalypse!

When I read the title what came to mind was that for next year you were thinking of doing a Pirates of Carribean End of World theme -- maybe you had bought some of those electronic firecrackers and were looking for a theme for them.
After reading your post, I wonder if Millenium (tv show) might provide some inspiration.
If you go ahead with it, your mom might think you are going to bring on the end of the world a few months earlier. Hope you don't live at home with her or if you do she might be asking you to look for other accommodations.

No, fortunately I am all grown up and moved out. My mother lives 2 states away so she should have little to fear. But on your comment of my mother believing I would start the apocalypse it is funny you say that because while brain storming for this theme I had another idea. Just to mess with people have a prop or an event that they interact with where in the end they are told that they just tipped the first domino in the chain of events that will bring our destruction. I know twisted and cruel but that's just how my mind works.
As for actually doing this, I really don't think so I have been jamming on bringing my whole Ravenfell Manor theme and story to fruition. This is more of a "wouldn't it be cool if" kinda thing.
