I know some folks are use to this because that is all they've ever known, but to me, it is just so gosh darn weird! I actually never heard of changing the TOT day and time restrictions until I became a member of this forum. I grew up in a small town here in MA and we never had anything like this. I now live in a city and we don't have restrictions here either. I have no idea if other towns/cities here in MA have laws like this, but I'll tell ya one thing, you better bet your sweet buns that when I start searching for a home to buy, I'll be making sure it is not in a town with these kinda laws lol.

I'm with FG here--proclaiming 'official' ToT hours on days other than Oct 31 is pretty idiotic. Perhaps they will next dictate when one may 'officially' go caroling in the Xmas season.
I've never lived anywhere that announced 'official' hours for ToTing or tried to move the day. Maybe some of us need to get on city councils, especially in smaller towns. I wonder how an ordinance requiring Halloween decor from Oct 15 thru Nov 5 would go over in my town?

That's really weird to move it 4 days up, especially to a Thursday, not even a Friday or Saturday. I know last year a couple of the towns around here moved ToT to Saturday since Halloween fell on a Sunday, which I thought was odd. I know many people took their kids to those towns Saturday night and then went out again here the next night. The city I live in has never moved it and actually doesn't usually set a time or anything like that, it's just general knowledge that people usually start taking their kids out around 6, which is when the sun usually starts to set around here at the end of October.
Growing up (I'm almost 22) we always went ToTing on Halloween, the 31st, usually going out around 6 until we got tired or people started turning their lights out. We did that no matter what day Halloween fell on, weekday, with school the next day, or weekend.
