My Suggestion..............Don't Clean!!! Go with a burried alive horders theme. You can have arms and legs sticking out everywhere. You can have all the spiders, rodents and cockroaches you can afford, or better yet lure in with some rotting food. Rotting food will also add a realism effect to the best Haunted Horders House.I'm feeling pretty behind right now because I have to admit that I am a total slob. I stink at cleaning and my apartment is nothing but clutter. I do want to point out that I do a good job at cleaning gross things (like the toilet, doing the dishes right away, taking out the garbage, etc). I just have a TON of clutter. I decided that I won't decorate until I have the place spotless. Since I suck at cleaning, it's taking forever. Is anybody else out there a mess? I need motivation to get my booty moving so I can surround myself with Halloween awesome-ness.

A "Buried Alive Horders" theme--love it, now that would be a scary Halloween party theme--especially if included smells....

Ugh. I was just thinking that this morning. I don't have much clutter, or gross dirtiness, but I have 2 little boys. I was thinking that I need to wind down on making stuff in order to start really cleaning the house (My grandma is coming to stay the weekend for the party... Yikes! Gotta clean under cushions and everything) but as soon as I clean something is just gets dirty again. It seems to work best of us if all the adults band together and just kamikaze clean right before hand.
Also, I can't really put out many decorations because they destroy them... Anyone wanna buy two little boys?!

LOL!! I'm sure you didn't mean this as literally as I read it but, my first reaction to this was EWWWWwwwww!! That's not MY idea of the makings for Halloween magic, but, I guess, to each his own! LOL!!!
Hehehehehe (Dogs pottying in the middle of paper mache, and your dining room being full of crap... LOL Just a really funny way to put it! Hahahaha) ...Btw, I think dogs have a sense about when is the WORST time to tell you they need to go out. My pooch waits until I'm in the middle of paper macheing too!
While in general, I'd consider myself a pretty organized person, when it comes to Halloween, there is no evidence of this to be found anywhere in my environment! lol I posted a pic of my workspace in another thread as evidence of how far the disaster area of my house goes this time of year! lol Everything seems to be covered in paper mache, including my dog and my cat.
Normally, I actually enjoy having a rather clean, organized work area as well as decorating space, but my hubby, (who I affectionately dubbed Mormessa as a counter to my own Halloween handle) has absolutely NO understanding of doing things in an orderly, neat or otherwise non-messy way. lol The boy simply cannot handle working on a project that does not involve flinging paper mache or paint or paint covered clothes wherever he can, nor does he understand the concept of NOT piling things on top of other more breakable things, just because it seems convenient to do so. lol
I'm not blaming the entire mess in my house on him, of course, I do my share, but he's worse than me!!! LOL
Right now there are props in various stages of completion in every room of the house, the vacuum hasn't been run in about two weeks, and there are bits of newspaper floating around like tumbleweeds whenever we walk, not to mention the entire kitchen floor being slippery with paper mache glue, some dry, some not. LOL
So yeah, you definitely aren't alone when dealing with the mess factor of Halloween time! LOL

Well, I still have stacks of boxes down in the basement, untouched from when we moved into this house two years ago.

Clutter is overwhelming, and at times feels like a burden to get through it. HOWEVER, do not deprive yourself of awesome Halloween goodness. Maybe try just doing part of a room... and putting a prop there. For me, if I actually take out a Halloween item... it motivates me to find a place for it.. and the side result is a cleaner room.

Hahahahahahaha! This cracked me up. I would consider that, but everybody I have over will just know I left all of my crap out.
I still feel a little bad because most of the people on here are organized in general but lose it during Halloween. I am messy all year round. And it's not Halloween stuff right now, its clothes/mail/wedding stuff/boxes and shipping stuff/and other random things. I don't put things away, and I have so many tubs/boxes/etc and I just never use them especially for everyday stuff. I also live in a small one-bedroom apartment so I don't have a lot of space for storage.
But I have to say, I got motivated last night and did a lot of cleaning/organizing. I am going to go continue it RIGHT NOW! I'm gonna sweep, mop, dust, and vacuum (you know...the deep cleaning stuff) so that I can start decorating tomorrow! Thanks for the motivation people! Everybody should post pictures of their decorations...ooooh....maybe do before and after pics....
