I am in need of some opinions. As I've mentioned in other threads, we really don't get any TOTs in our end of the city (last year we only got 3). There are children who live over here, but most of them probably go to the Highlands, which is where all the fancy shmancy houses are
So, I thought I'd make a few signs and pin em up on telephone poles, letting kids know that they can TOT on my street. I don't plan on plastering the signs all over the city, but just a few in my general area. I came up with 'Trick-Or-Treat On Tripp Street'. My husband is affraid that it's going to attract the trouble makers
My city isn't the greatest, but it certainly isn't the worse either. I understand his concerns, but I see it more as it's keeping the kids out of trouble (hopefully). So, I have an idea that I could try and get my neighbors involved. I could send a letter to everyone on my street (not a huge street lol. I'd say there are only about 12-18 houses) and let them know about my idea for 'Trick-Or-Treat On Tripp Street'. Along with the letter, I'll include a black and an orange balloon, and explain that if they want to participate/give out candy, to blow up the balloons and put them outside of their home (I'll also put a couple of balloons with each sign I hang up, so kids will hopefully understand that the houses with balloons are giving out candy). By doing this, I'm hoping it'll put my husband's mind at ease since we won't be the only folks doing it (if all works out well). Not to mention I think it's a great idea to get the entire street involved for Halloween
What do ya'll think of this? Good idea? I could really use some feedback

ToToTs ?? I say go for it. There was a lady at my local Halloween City store that handed out flyers for her home haunt and I've heard of others doing the same. I wouldn't sweat the riff-raff, if you are worried about it just call the local police/sheriff's department and nicely request a patrol of your street which in most cases they will be happy to oblige. In my experience, if you impress the riff-raff with your display they can become your biggest advocates "duuuuuddde... check out that, !@#*#-ing awesome!"

LOL yeah, I know what you mean. I don't actually have a haunt though....I don't even have a front yard lol. The house is right up to the sidewalk. I live in an apartment, but it's not like an apartment complex or anything. Around here, regular residential houses were turned into apartments back in the day. So, on the outside it looks like a regular ole house, but on the inside it's done up into usually 3-6 apartments. I do plan on decorating the front door, columns and railing...and my front windows of course. I'll have spooky music playing and have a strobe light going also. So it's nothing spectacular, but it's SOMETHING for the kids to enjoy. I ran my idea by my husband, but he doesn't think people around here will get into it
I, at least, wanna give it a try. People may surprise you! He will forever be a pessimist and I am the forever optimist.

say go for it
I don't think it will attract "riff raff" so much as give a heads up that this is a great, local area to go to
good luck!

I think this is fantastic. I agree on the take time to catch on. Hopefully this year it will catch on quick, but if not, stick with it, it will grow.

I met this six-year-old child, with this blank, pale, emotionless face and, the blackest eyes... the devil's eyes. I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up because I realized what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply... evil
