Im really stuck on what do to in this particular room. Its actually the first room of our haunt so i dont think it has to be really really scary, but i still want it to be freaky. Im torn between the dot room or something really bloody and gory. Ive never witnessed a dot room...so im not sure if its even that good of an idea. What do you guys think? Id also thought about having two of the 4 walls black and the other two white and have a bunch of those plain white mask on the black walls and black mask on the white walls. And of course have some actors in there blending in with the walls. kind of like the dot room i guess.

The masks sound really creepy........you could also use a bunch of white gloves and have some real hands mixed in to reach out. But the masks sound super easy and will have a great effect.

Both the dot room and the mask idea sound cool to me. When I trick or treated around 10 to 15 years ago, a house in my neighborhood used to always do a dot room and it would always work, year after year.
Your mask idea seems like it would work similar to the dot room. Almost like putting a twist to it.

I don't know how large your haunt is, but we always try to make the first scene very scary or freaky. You set the tone for the rest of the haunt with that first impression. Get people out of their comfort zone with the first scene and they will be at your mercy for the rest of the haunt.

A similar (disorienting) idea is to cover the walls and an actor with mylar or a similar material (like tin foil) and then put a strobe light in the room. It makes for a great effect.

OMG that reminds me of this awesome room I went through at a haunt once! They splattered bright colors against black walls and had a black light. Then they had 2 people in full black body suits with the same splatters so they COMPLETELY blended in. It wasn't necessarily scary, per say, because the people just moved around and didn't do much to scare you. But I will say it was the most memorable, coolest experienced I had that Halloween. I wanted to stay in that room all night!

The dot room is one of my tot's favorite rooms. I didn't put it up last year and that's all I heard all night. Wheres the dot room? wheres the dot room? heaven forbid I retire it for a year. It's back for this year. I swear, dot room and clowns...I like your idea about the black/white room. Dan

I'm doing a dot room this year for the first time. I've seen videos of them and they look cool.
Most of the kids in my area are really young and get scared of creepy things. I think the dot room will be cool.
