This link was sent to me from a friend on my FB. Thought you would all be interested. How can anyone go OVERBOARD on Halloween...geez!
And that awesome lawnmower prop that had calls to 911. To generalize and say that guy has watched every B-rated horror on Netflix. Well, thats a lot of movies and the guy may not even have Netflix!! lol

As I was going up the stair, I saw a man that wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today...Oh how I wish he'd go away.

People like that deputy city manager guy are really trying their hardest to ruin everything cool on this little rock of a planet.

I think it is awesome to see people go all out for Halloween. I miss seeing most houses in a neighborhood decorated for Halloween when I was growing up. Granted they weren't all going as crazy as I would but it was always awesome to see a whole street lit up with pumpkins and decor. Sadly that isn't the case anymore. We had several churches go on an all out offensive against Halloween back in my teen years. Sending out fliers that talked about how Halloween was satanic and how child molesters used the holiday to capture their prey. Their solution come to the church and have a good old fashioned wholesome not halloween oriented party with candy and treats. They preached about the pagan rituals of Samhain and how people were worshipping the devil even if they didn't know it. I bet they would be really horrified to know that Xmas was originally a pagan holiday called Saturnalia. I hope no one thinks this post is against churches, its not. I just don't like what a few zealots have done to a really great holiday.
We are one of 2 houses in my neighborhood that go all out. But I'm hoping more people will join in since they seemed somewhat intrigued by our yard haunt last year but who knows. Either way I am not giving up. Halloween is too awesome to let its spirit fade.
I do hope the issue with the so called overboard display is resolved in a positive manner and he is allowed to go along with what he has done for 4 years. And in regards to the lawn mower prop prompting the call to 911 I kinda have to question why the person who called didn't first-I don't know like go and see if the guy getting run over was okay. It might have saved the police a lot of time.

WOW. Talk about joyless people. The thing about people who complain about stuff is that they probably know better and understand that nobody is hurt, that it's all for fun, and if they took the time to ask they'd learn how much happiness these things bring. ESPECIALLY when there's charity involved. Humbug.

It is a shame that they are asking him to shutdown. I cringe every time I see the truck from Water Department roll through my neighborhood ... the city building inspectors drive the same kind of truck and I keep having that fear that someone is going to shut me down. It would be just devastating to not only my family and I but everyone in the neighborhood that has come to enjoy the display each year. Zoning laws are to be respected yes ... but surely it is just one sore apple ruining the lot for everyone!

This guy (deputy city manager) needs to go to see the wizard of oz and ask for a heart and brain. What kind of person would take donations away from a kid? If the guy is nice enough to donate all of the donations to The Make A Wish Foundation why is a zoneing code such a big deal? If anyone can find any details about this please let me know.
halloween is a super cool holiday.

This irks me in soooo many ways! My husband is the chairman of our local housing and subdivisions appeal board, so I Definitely understand about zoning laws, but to me, this seems ridiculous. The money is going to charity, and if it isn't shutting anything down, I don't see how they can be considering it "commercial". It makes me sad to think that someone is going so far out of their way to shut down something that does some good for others. I mean, let's face it...there are bigger "criminals" out there than this guy who is giving his all for some charities. Why not pick on the drug dealer that lives down the street and targets junior high students as clients? ridiculous. What is this world coming to?

My guess is that someone called and made this the city manager's problem to solve. I'm thinking just collecting money is what makes it commercial and that who ever complained probably doesn't want to deal with the traffic/noise all night long. Maybe they've had a problem with bad spectators or worse yet, they tried to reason with the haunter and he has that "screw em" attitude that a lot here seem to have when dealing with upset neighbors. Without knowing the specifics, it seems premature to pass judgement.
BTW: A guy I know made a fake fire in his house and the neighbors called the fire department...good neighbors in my opinion... and now when he sets up, he calls the fire department to let them know so that everyone is informed.
