This year ive been thinking about getting a ceramic pumpkin for my " outdoor decorations" -wich basically is a few bits on my tiny balcony in my appartment

Reason is that i live very close to a lake, that is also a bird reservation. ( fun in the summer mornings.. not!) And last year i managed to get a free and already evil faced pumkin from the local amusementpark.
So i proudly sat it outside. First of it startet to rot really quickly, im guessing maybe a lot of people touched it, in the park. Secondly after only 3 days on my balcony it suffered a slow and discusting looking death-by-huge-evil-lookig-bird. I woke up and there was a huge raven feasting away on my poor little orange veggie, and it left pumpkin -splat ( and bird-splat!) all over.

so.. therefore the thoughts of a ceramic one. But i have to ask u experienced haunters.. is it considered cheating? my rep a a future haunter depends on it hehe..

I don't think it's cheating. If foam "funkins" aren't cheating (and they're not) then a ceramic one isn't, as well. My only concern would be it getting chipped over the years.

My guess is that your amusement park pumpkin either had been out for awhile, or was someplace hot, hence it's premature decomposition. And...while it was disgusting...have to admit the image of a raven perching on and devouring a jack-o-lantern is kind of cool....

Go for it! I live in Florida and understand how the real thing sometimes doesnt cut it! AS long as you are celebrating who cares if its a real pumpkin or a ceramic or plastic! Just have fun with it, the fact that you are decorating is all that matters
Linus: You've heard about fury and a woman scorned?
Charlie Brown: Yes, I guess I have.
Linus: Well that is nothing compared to the fury of a woman who has been cheated out of tricks or treats!

Definitely not cheating! I combine. I have a bunch of "fake" pumpkins, then very close to Halloween, I get real pumpkins and carve them. Pumpkin decor in general (meaning fake/artificial pumpkins) has always been popular in the U.S. for the fall. There's nothing weird here at all about having ceramic, foam or plastic pumpkins.
