I was in Menards [midwest/upper midwest regional home improvement chain] today to pick up stuff for a stirring witch i'm planning and I wanted a strand of the flickering flame lights to go under the cauldron. A strand of these costs about $10 full price inthe halloween aisle but I checked the Xmas lighting displays and found a set of the same lights for $6.50. The only difference *might* be that the Xmas version has a green cord--I don't know what color cord the halloween lights have. this can save a few bucks [roughly 30%] if you're looking at making Terra's flickering pumpkins or doing some of the candle projects out there. I'll be checking the Xmas lights in all the stores from now on.

Agreed. Had picked up two C7 flicker light sets at my local Lowes the other day for just under $10 each (no Menard's around here, sadly
), but even so -- that's substantially cheaper than what I'd been seeing them listed for online at various websites.

I know what you mean. Last year, I needed a battery operated candle for one of my props to hold. Found those cheesy Christmas window candles and spooked it up a little - perfect! I've also used the solid green Christmas lights inside my cauldron to give off a green glow. Cheaper and they put out more light than the Halloween green lights.

I usually get the Xmas stuff that I 'fix' in the sales after Dec25. I was just struck that what appears to be the same exact lights are $3.50 cheaper right now if I buy them from the Xmas aisle instead of the Halloween aisle. The only other good thing about Xmas decorations being put out now is that I can add Halloween stuff to the Nativity scenes [Menards is just lucky they don't carry zombie babies. I'm just sayin'.]

I too cannibalize Christmas items like candle sticks and such for Halloween. The cheaper and more creative you are the better I say. I do find it kind of "sucks" to see Christmas stuff going on sale this time of year along with Halloween items. I've also found over the past couple years the Halloween items on sale from your local Wally World to Lowes and in-between has dropped off dramatically which is a bummer in my book, heck you have to search high and low or go to a "specialized" Halloween store to just find a bag of cob-webbing which is ridicules! I guess it must be because of the economy but I sure hope things pick up in the coming years and more stores start to stock Halloween items again.
