Besides all the decorating and Halloween parties, what else do you do for the month of October that sets it apart from the rest of the year? We like to get in a haunted attraction if possible. Also a local German brewery has Oktoberfest the month long which is cool. Great food, beer and music, and I'm friends with the owner. Also we do a medieval feast at the coolest restaurant anywhere. For October it's themed around Halloween, held in the catacombs, and hosted by the Count and his minions. Here's the link, and it's worth the trip if you can get to Pennsylvania! Along with all this, I go hiking to admire the fall scenery, and fortunately the Appalachian Trail is a half hour away with some of the highest elevations in the area. We've also gone on ghost tours locally, and they were a lot of fun. Plus just stopping by the local nurseries and farm stands to see what they have for sale is always worthwhile.

I go to as many haunted houses and Halloween related pet events and pet costume contests as I possibly can!
Some pet events from last year:

I also like to go apple picking, go to a pumpkin farm (or two) some of which also have their own haunted houses and Halloween stores, etc... I love haunted houses so I try to go to as many as I can, and there are a lot in the Chicago area.Zombie Eradication/Disposal Unit (ZEDU) - K-9 Patrol Division

Then the 15th is the Undead Race...Humans get a 2 minute headstart on the zombies
Then fit in a couple haunted houses that my friends are running
Then Friday the 29th...head down to Provo to pick up my packet for the Halloween Half Marathon and check out some haunts by fellow Rocky Mountain Haunters

The crappy cornfield maze with a bunch of uninterested teenagers and the only semi-average haunted house left in town.
That's all there IS to do.

We're headed out tomorrow to pick out our pumpkins. Ther is a very nice farmer's market about an hour from us and we make the trip eaxch year, stop for lunch and get some nice pumpkins for cheap prices. My son's birthday is in October so we will have him invite 5 or 6 friends for pizza, wings, and a trip to one of the local haunted attractions. On the 15th we're taking our Scout Troop to a Haunted Hayride in N.Y. Our local historical society offers great tours of our local cemetery with an emphasis on spooky legends surrounding some of the people buried there. That's about all we have time for in addition to getting ready for our own haunt.

Most people seem to have some very diverse, fun, and well-meaning activities. It's too bad if you're in an area with limited events though, especially where the teenage actors could care less.

We'll be visiting the State Fair next weekend. Not Halloween related, but it is a fall activity. I'm not a huge fan of commercial "haunted" attractions, but there are quite a few in my area. Most rely on the gross-out and chain saw methods of scaring and that is just not my thing, but for those who like them, they should have no problem finding a few to check out. We may get out to Six Flags during Fright Fest if we get a chance. I haven't been in a couple of years, so that might be fun.
I really envy my northern friends with all their apple picking-pumpkin patch-hayride type activities! That always sounded like so much fun!Dear Sweet Leota, Beloved By All. In Regions Beyond Now But Having a Ball...

This year I get to help do makeup for a haunted house so I think that will be a blast. We start tonight. The last 2 years I have been working management at halloween stores, so I never had the time to do much else. Madame Leota, you must be near the DFW area for the State Fair. I haven't been able to make the Fair for years now, but I have fond memories of it. I have never been to the Fright Fest, is it worth the price?
