I noticed last year that more than half the kids didn't even say "Trick or Treat". Most of them just stood there with their bags open. I make them say it by asking "What do you say?". Most replied with "Thank you". I'm like "No, that is what you say after I give you something".
Has anyone else noticed the lack of "Trick or Treat" phrase? I find it very sad. I might make a sign this year that states... "No Trick or Treat... No goodies" or something along these lines.

I have posted on this before. It bugs me too, I love to give the candy but I'm a stickler for the words too. They will stand there with their bags open and I will stand there holding the bowl and we just look at each other until I finally say, 'Well, can I help you?' They usually figure out what I'm waiting for...lol
As I was going up the stair, I saw a man that wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today...Oh how I wish he'd go away.

Children, like most adults, have become far too lazy! Make those little buggers say it! lol

That's seems to be a very big trend. I always make sure my boys say Trick or Treat and Thank you when they receive something. I do make them say it before i give them
anything. I should say alot of times they are way to scared of me to say anything. So the faster they say it the faster they RUN not walk but run away. lol

I'm thinking about making a little sign for the door, and shine one of the little LED lights on it. Something like
"To Get Something Good To Eat ~ Don't Forget To Say 'Trick or Treat'!"
But I also make sure my little boy says Trick or Treat, and thank you.

I'm with BooBaby. I just stand there with the goodies until they say it or their parent, who usually says something to them to coax them along. It's not much of a prob. in our area thankfully. Almost every child is very polite.

Yea, I have to admit I'm a stickler for the "Trick or Treat". But, it's done very good naturedly, and I always get it - except from a few wee little ones who look too darned cute to deny!

All the kids that say "Trick or Treat" must be moving to my area... I've never run into that problem before!

I had an older kid open a bag and stand there last year.
I asked "What do you want?"
He said "Candy."
"Why should I just give you candy?"
"'Cause you got a nice little home here. Shame if anything happened to it."
That was close enough for me - means the same thing, at any rate.
He got candy.
