I am now starting my usual thing, I buy some small toys like spider rings, glow in the dark bats, things like that. I try to give these to people, wherever I go. I'll say something like, "Halloween is coming soon. Happy Halloween!" It doesn't have to be a big deal, in fact it should be done as a simple routine. I believe this helps people connect with the holiday, it shows support and enthusiasm. And besides, that is what all those little plastic toys are made for, right? To give out to people.

I urge people to do the same or similar! Get out there in Sept/Oct and bring Halloween to the people.
    "WHAT'S out there?"

"I don't know.......it was little and brown, and low to the ground!"

In my opinion, you may win over a few converts, but most people already have their minds made up about the holiday, which nothing will change. That's a cool thing to do, though. I've got one of the 'Support Halloween' ribbon magnets from Spirit, so I intend to put that to use

I've had my office door decorated for about 3 weeks....got a couple "isn't too early?" comments....erm, nope!
I didn't make him for you!... He carries the Charles Atlas seal of approval.

It's not easy having a good time! Even smiling makes my face ache!

I don't think of it as an attempt to "win over" people, for me it is really to put the idea out there and advertise it, and also to illustrate by example that Halloween is a "nice" holiday during which people get neat things, with no obligation on anyone's part. And, for those people for are already positively responsive to the holiday, getting a little toy or something is just confirmation this Halloween is good people. In addition, it illustrates that one does it because it's fun, because one wants to (if one wants to), and let us set the example of "fun is good/Halloween encourages pleasant social interaction". It's not, for me, about conversion at all.

It's a bit stronger than just wearing a T-shirt, because the person will take the toy home with them. And it's a bit more proactive than just handing treats out to TOTs...in this version, you go out and just sort of give them out, to whoever. No "payoff" is necessary or expected. The treats are just plain old free, no worries!

You might be surprised...responses are generally totally positive, and never, to my recollection, otherwise!

When I hear "isn't it too early yet?" at the craft store, I'll interject with a "speak for yourself. I started working in June" or "only 'x' days till Halloween." Usually it gets a laugh.
