For those that use the $1 plastic pumpkin and add lights to them, what sort of lights do you use>? C7/C9’s, a small string of white lights (led or incand) or what else? Also, do you “weather proof” them in any way; drill holes at the bottom for the water to drain or use any type of plastic wrap to try to cover the top to keep the water out?

I picked up a few and just trying to figure out the best way to light them (currently going to use some strands of white lights that I already have, vs. spending $3 per pumpkin to add c7 clip in lights - I have 25 pumpkins, so it woudl quikly add up and the Halloween budget is already low)

    thanks

Michaels is a good place to find them. They are usually by the ceramic section. People use them for their light up villages.

@Halloween Queen, Hobby Lobby had then online for $3 each (single c7 clip in lights) but I have not check the store yet. Lowes or HD had them onlien too (HD did not have them in the store I went to this morning. But i recieved a great suggestion from the LOR forum, take a set of C7/C9 Christmas lights and re-wire them for the spacing you need using the wire from a dead string of lights.

I've done this before with those pumpkin pails and it worked great

    1. I drilled holes in the bottom to spike the pumpkins into ground because I wanted specific angles for the faces (this also keeps them from blowing away when the wind kicks up)

    2. I drew Nightmare Before Xmas-style faces on the back of the pumpkins so they wouldn't all look alike.

    3. I grouped them together throughout the shrubbery in patches of 3-7 then stuffed strings of Xmas lights in them.

    4. I used the short strings of lights on the small groups and the larger strings on the bigger patches.

    5. I wanted a darker effect so I loosely covered the open tops with red cellophane wrapping paper.

    good luck and Happy Haunting!
