I touched on this in another thread but who besides me wish's they would do this again.
Rural areas really need something and this was a great way to do it.

Well I for one will agree with you.
I picked up almost all of my latex props at the local Spencers at 50% discount for several years. And this was sometimes just before halloween that they would mark them down. A week later and I even scored a couple at 75% off.
Much better than the drive to a Spirit store which around here means driving to a set up near the Mass or Maine border. Cos we have no sales tax that is NH's game, suck in the consumers from neighboring states. Thus most of the good stores are right at the border.
Like we only have one Costco and guess where it's located....

I agree. Spencers had the coolest stuff. I purchased a candelabra there. Spirit store carries the same item but at a higher price. In addition I thought the quality of merchandise was greater at Spencers.

That's a really good point. You're right, The quality did seem alot better. My latex props are now getting pretty old, 5 years for some and they are in fine shape. From what I'm seeing the focus at the Spirit stores now seems to be primarily costumes. There were "oodles n oodles" of way over-priced cheap costumes and the foreign fabrics made the store smell funny. You know, it's that same smell as when you walk through the clothing section at Walmart.

I saw a few animated props but even less of the latex. The only thing I bought was the small latex black cat. Glad I didnt make it a special trip to the store, I went to one a few miles from my brothers house but was going there anyways to watch the football game. It wouldnt have been worth the 40 some mile driveNew Hampshire: America's Original Haunted Attraction

Spirit Halloween is a division of Spencer Gifts...........................
I find our local Spencer Gifts a dump, poorly stocked, dirty floors and for the teen aged kids to hang out and usually cause trouble. I for one prefer the Spirit Halloween stores that are nothing but Halloween items this way I do not have to go through a ton of junk before I find the items I an looking for, I really to Appreciate the hard work the Spirit employees do to set up the stores and keep it them up. The stores in our area are top notch and just feel right, IMHO......

Back several years, I lived in a town that never got a Spirit but we did have a Spencer's at the mall. Sure enough, I grabbed several cool things there that I wouldn't have otherwise been able to get. I got several, several cool things on mega-clearance after the holiday. Ah, the good old days. Now where I live, the nearest Spencer's is a heck a ways away, but I've got 2 Spirits within a half hour drive. So... it all comes out in the wash I reckon.

Spencers moved away from the Halloween market a few years ago when the Spirit division really started to take off. They still stock some costumes and masks but very few prop type items. They used to have a really nice display/selection and I remember their front display windows being all decked out with some great props. A couple years ago, I bought my two skull candleabras from Spencers when Spirit didn't have them in stock. spencers had about a dozen of them on sale for $20.00 each, which was still cheaper than I could have got them at spirit using a 20% off coupon. I was at spencers a few days ago and they were putting out costumes and masks, but it paled in comparison to what they used to carry. They want Spirit to be the main Halloween focus.

Like halloween71, my Spencer store is just fine. It isnt dumpy at all and there really isnt any "riff raff" to be found in there. Maybe that's one of the perks of living here but I'll take it any day of the week.
Another neat thing was that Spencers would give me something called a "Spencer Buck" or whatever, I recall it was like a $5.00 certificate for every X amount of $$ spent. Thus when I would pick up some props even those on sale I would get these certificates to spend usually by Thanksgiving.
It was great because I'd go back and get some Xmas goody gifts for my sweet hubby. And Spencers has some great gaudy gifts ya just dont find everywhere these days
One year I got him the blue neon ELVIS light to add to the Elvis collectables room.....

Totally agree, if it wasn't for Spencers I wouldn't have even half of what I have. I used to get crazy mark downs the day after. I also knew the mgr so she would hold things back for me,AHHHH!!! I MISS those days, you have no idea.It was my personal Christmas
