Looking over my pics on Halloween night I noticed that cause I leave the lights on by the front door so the kids can see where they are stepping, it seems to give off to much light in that general area. The old school was lights on meant that you were giving out candy.......well with a house all decked out it would be obvious that I was handing out candy lol! Do you leave the lights on or do you just let the lighting from your haunt be enough? I don't want them to trip cause I have a concrete porch slab.

ohhh...That's a good question and I'm glad you reminded me of this. I always leave the porch lights off, but every H'ween night I worry about some ToTer tripping on the steps. I'm definitely going to have to make adjustments to my lighting..

I usually change out the porch light into those flickering flames bulbs--which with our two porch lights and four flames in each give off enough light, but not too much. I think you do need to make sure that there is enough light, but you can go with colored bulbs,or cover the porch light with a fake jack-o-lantern, skull, etc. and still have enough light to be safe. Just think of something creative to get the amount of light you need, while still keeping the atmosphere you want! Just wondering what area of PA you are in--I am in the southeast part...

Cathy glad to remind you of this and we do get small kids so I don't want them tripping on anything yet I still don't want the lighting to be to bright.

Minshe I do have pumpkin light covers on them but they still leave alot of light on the sides of them. I might just change the bulbs to a color. I am in Chester County.......where are you?

Lights are technically on, but I switch out to low wattage colored bulbs too.

That's the first thing I do actually... it's the sign that we are in Halloween mode for the neighbors!

If you have any sort of stairs, odd pathway or whatever, switch it to something different in the main porch lights (NOT the "blacklight bulbs" as they don't work and don't give off hardly any light anyway) and light the walking areas with either colored floods or rope lights so there is still enough light to see by, but it doesn't ruin your haunt effect.

Is there anything you can put on the slab to light that section such as a JOL or the like. Dollar Tree actually has the Halloween solar powered path lights that are fairly small so they probably would give off just enough light and not too much.

EDIT: Just found this cool project idea; http://thehandmedownhouse.blogspot.c...e-amazing.html

The height difference between my walkway & driveway is a tripping hazard, so rather the kids come up the driveway & having to light it so they don't trip on it I put up a lighted archway in my yard down by the sidewalk & cordon off a path so the kids have to come straight up the grass from the sidewalk. I also cordon off the driveway & park all the cars in the driveway so they can't come up the driveway at all. I also sit outside to give out candy.....so I think it's all pretty clear that I'm giving out candy! (I hope! LOL)

We usually leave the porch light on just to be on the safe side
