I believe I was born with a trick or treat pail in my hands. I love Halloween, and have infected my husband with the sickness too. While I love watching Ghost Hunters, and what my mom and nephew call "ghost stories" on tv, even though those monsters and reenactments are lame, I still get the heebeejeebees from them. When it is time for slasher flicks?? I will spend my time with my ears plugged, and my eyes shut. I am a total horror movie wuss. Am I the only gore enthusiast that can't handle Freddy Krueger??![]()

My kiddo(16) loves the season and all that comes with it except the horror movies. She doesn't get that from me though. I love having the beejesus scared out of me. I am a horror movie junkie! But I tend to love the old ones the originals. Seems like the newer ones just aren't very good.

Count me among those who don't understand the appeal of Michael, Jason, Freddy, Leatherface, nor the newer "torture-porn" genre like the 'Saw' franchise . . .

It's simple, really: Monsters > Slashers.

Yep, you are the odd one out

No, really, a fair amount of members have the same issue with horror movies, I think. I can kind of understand it, since Halloween is multifaceted and also has a more playful/child-friendly side; just because someone is into the holiday doesn't necessarily mean that they are fond of horror films.
Trust me, I'm not among those who have a problem with them
I grew up watching horror on television every Saturday, so that pretty much explains why I am the way that I am
One thing that I am not fond of is 'torture porn', though

Alot of people on love Halloween, the holiday, but not horror movies. Some of the best horror movies ever made didn't have any gore, sex, or crude language in them. The pendulum swings back and forth in the genre. With movies likes Paranormal Activity, I see it swinging back towards the old days. Gore in horror films isn't going away thanks to the slasher films of the 80's being so successful. Sequels aren't going away either. What are they up to in the Friday 13th series, Part XXV, Jason receives his social security check?
. Just, enjoy Halloween the way you want to.

There are other holidays besides Halloween? When did they start that?

Hey Saruman and Beebs,
I'm with you guys. I'm a 51 year old white guy and I've only seen two slasher films (when they first came out), the original Halloween (1978) and the original Friday the 13th (1980), and those turned me off of the genre alltogether. Frankly I just don't see the entertainment value in graphic depictations of stabbings, decapitations, disembowlings, etc, all the while mixing sex into it. I don't get it. The last "scary" film I saw was "Blair Witch", which creeped me out enough, and there was no blood, gore, sex mixed with gore, etc (but it didn't help that every other word in the dialog was f*ck, I mean, how much entertainment value is there in that kind of trivial dialog?). It really bothers me that the "torture-porn" film as you call it (I've never heard that term before) is becoming so prevelent, and that kids are watching them routinely because somehow they get PG-13 rating (so much for childhood). Halloween is becoming more closely associated with this genre with every year that passes and it just pisses me off. Give me a classic Universal Studios monster flick any night over just about anything else made!

I am the same. I love love LOVE Halloween, but I don't like horror movies. I like paranormal thrillers, but I can't stand to see people cut up and especially stabbed in the achilles tendon from under the bed!!

Just to be clear, I've no problem with watching violence and gore depicted on-screen. I'm certainly not squeamish. Some of my favorite movies are 'Braveheart', 'Gladiator', etc. But never been a fan of the typical, formulaic slasher "horror" movies.
