Well it is that time of year when I get to quit mowing. We all need to make our yard more unique for our Halloween haunt. Right?!? How many of you stop mowing to help create that extra scare factor with the yard by letting the grass grow. I love to tell the neighbors I am done for the year! It makes me feel so good as we get closer to Halloween!

That's hysterical - we just stopped too. Gotta get it a little shaggy looking.

I have always stopped mowing around this time myself, however this year I was thinking that I would just keep the grass short.
Do you guys think it makes that big of a difference?

That is great! My PIC and I did somewhat the opposite last year. We actually spent extra time cutting down those thin, ghastly looking wannabe trees that had sprouted up behind the buildings of main street from years of neglected alleyway maintenance. Then we brought our collection to our haunt in order to create a haunted woods indoors. Our haunt looked amazing, the main street alleyway looked amazing- everybody was happy

It does for me because what I am hoping to do just before our party is mow a patch right in the middle and lay down a tarp there for a swamp, similar to the way Frankenfrog did it here (and thanks for the demo, FF!) -> Post your 2010 haunt pictures here!, only ours will be on a smaller scale.

So if we stop mowing now, the grass will have grown up around that area and look sort of unkempt and swampy.

Oct 1 I turn off the sprinklers and let the grass proceed to shag for the season I will also bring into the yard a group of widowmaker branches that fell off my giant tree this year so it has the run down look.

James B - you need to get the neighborhood to follow your lead. Then it will be easier not to mow next year.
