So through a random turn of events, i left the UK on thursday and am back in the states. Since then i've been through 6 states across the US, all the way to Los Angeles and alll the way back to NJ and NY.
And i gotta tell you, no one is representing more so than NY right now. So many houses decorated, and not just fall decor. I'm talking full lawn decs and carved pumpkins. I almost lost my **** at one point, it was house after house.
And having left the UK a few days ago, granted the stores have started rolling stuff out there, but to walk in every store and just have halloween hit me in the face is fantastic.
That and Pumpkin Spice latte's from Starbucks. I love this country.
The only downside to this is anyone i'm exchanging cards with sorry for the delay, won't be able to do anything till i get back home.

And England has such a long tradition of ghost stories and horrific entertainment.
"WHAT'S out there?"
"I don't know.......it was little and brown, and low to the ground!"

Great Comment! Every country has their own way of celebrating Halloween, but i think how we do it in the US is untouchable. Americans have a strong passion and love for this holiday, and this passion is nowhere close to diminishing. There is a book called Halloween: An American Holiday, an American History, and contains an excellent article by Brian Sutton-Smith featured in the Parents Magazine from 1983. It says, "These holiday celebrations are our final resting places for trust and security. We cannot give them up and close our door, turn out our lights and snuff out the candles. The heart and future of our nation depends on their continuance." How true those words are. Halloween in the US is far more than just a holiday, its a testimony of everything our nation has undergone in order to have the freedom to celebrate Halloween.

As a tot I would secretly watch Monster movies in the basement on weekends. Of corse, come evening I'd pile every stuffed animal I owned around me, then wrap a blinket all around my neck...You know, to keep the "Draculas" from biteing me all this in drenching hot summers. My point being, Halloween became a time for me to face all the Monsters and later to find they were fun. American Halloween is a terrific way to confront the scarry, face to goulish face. I brought my kids up around skulls, ghosts, vampires, aliens and lots of Godzilla. I, in no way wanted them cowering alone under the covers like my childhood. Perhaps I went a bit too far. When we go places sometimes we get the oddist looks when my kids ooh and ahh over how "darling" the monster is and how cute is the "skelly" with the dripping blood. Oh well.....
