Don't worry, I won't make another thread, but I really wanted to make this one. No more after this.

Anyway, I've been looking at some photos that members here have posted in the past of their decorations, and it seems so much different than what I prefer, and what I normally associate with Halloween. Maybe it's because I'm pretty young that I still focus on the decor that I'm used to.

For example, I'm seeing less and less of the basic things like jack-o-lantern themed items, or ghosts, witches, etc. I'm not really into the 'darker' part of Halloween as I like to think I am. Which is really weird, because I love the darker stuff on any other day except Halloween.

I'm not into the zombie stuff, or the gore, or dark, gothic, really creepy decorations, some involving skulls and skeletons. I don't mind skulls and skeletons all the time on Halloween, but meh.

I guess it's ironic how I like the 'brighter', more basic side of Halloween rather than dark and demonic creepiness which I love every other day. Of course, there are some things that are 'dark' which I still like, such as Grim Reaper props and all that, but I'm unfortunately pretty picky.

Meh, I've just always loved the brighter things like Jack-o-Lanterns and basic ghosts, witches, tombstones, (some) skeletons, and other things. I don't mean to rant, but going by some pictures I've seen here, as well as the merchandise I've seen in the stores I've been to, it seems like there's an increased popularity of the darker stuff. Everyone can like what they like, so please don't think I'm saying it's bad to like that stuff, or to use it, or whatever. I'm just expressing my own observations and preferences.

Hopefully at least one of these paragraphs made sense...

I got what your saying. As I grow older the more I realize that I love the more positive, happier, brighter version of halloween. Gore is not my thing for halloween, movies sure. But not on the day I feel the warmest.
Everyone has their own outlook and preference... I myself like the idea of halloween being just more basic, classic and fun.
The only downfall of Halloween is it only happens once a year.

Yay, I'm glad you got what I meant, and you agree too. Thank you. And yeah, to each their own. Also, yes, gore is cool in the movies, hah. You see, for Halloween, I really love...

I like seeing any home haunt but I prefer Haunted vs. Horror. I was in kid in the 1960's and 1970's so I prefer the Draculas, Frankensteins, ghosts and witches. SpookyBlue on his blog had a great article called "Because chainsaws are stupid".

I definitely agree. ^.^ I'm obsessed with Halloween as a whole, but I'm more enthusiastic about the party/fun/bright aspect of the holiday. I adore the witches, ghosts, jack-o-laterns--- basically what you said. :P

I'm much more into the universal monsters, ghosts and goblins. I'm pretty nostalgic so anything that reminds me of when I was a child means more to me during Halloween than a Zombie throwing up into a trash can. In a Haunted House, bring on the zombies and killers. But when I'm looking at decor, give me cheap and classic..

I wouldn't say basic, I would say "Classic".

We all have our own tastes and I think that there is nothing really wrong with any of it... within reason of course. (There was a good discussion on the forum a while back on the use of small corpses [think kids] and what goes too far.)

I for one love skeletons in all mater of decay, ghosts, graveyards and general "old haunted" feeling. I try and go for the feeling of that old house/hotel/graveyard that you knew was haunted as a kid. I have a few guts in my props, but nothing that is actively being ripped out by some crazed psycho. The only way I would work in a serial killer is if it was years ago in my house and now there are restless spirits wandering around... and a few corpses. I do want my visitors to be scared, but not horrified or throwing up.

And for those people who want to cut a body in half with a chain saw then I say go for it.

We all have different tastes and I don't think you are alone in yours.

So keep your pumpkins, witches, ghosts and the rare skeleton and proudly enjoy it. Your haunt is what you make of it.

It reminds me of the white lights or multi discussions on Christmas boards. Everyone has their own tastes. My tastes are more classic. I grew up watching Sir Graves Ghastly with my Dad on Saturday afternoons. Halloween to me is more atmosphere and imagination than blood or gore.

I am more into a feeling like the Disney's Haunted Mansion in my displays. I'm in the minority, but I like Halloween lights, glitter, and a good old fashioned face pumpkin.

I do appreciate anyone who puts an effort into our special holiday. Variety is the spice of life!
