Hello, I started this thread to see if I'm not the only lonely Halloween aficionado that celebrate the holidays solo. In my life, nobody else is as into this day as much as I am, and it is disapointing and depressing. My husband thinks it's a cute holiday for children, and since we do not have any, we are the kids. I know he's a kid at heart, and I am a huge kid.
We had to move to this state 5 years ago, and I tried to get to know many people here, it just never panned out. I threw 2 Halloween parties, maybe 5 people showed. I was the only one in costume, my husband didn't even dress up. I felt foolish. I decorated the house beautifully, in elegantly spooky style, I wish I took pictures. It looked gorgeous!!
That's my forte, decorating, crafting, sewing, and setting a great scene. So, I did all that work for nothing. Needless to say, no more parties, at least until we move to a friendlier place.
Last year, I dressed up in spiderly style, played my endless stream of Halloween music, and my husband made a Halloween themed dinner for just us two. It was the best Halloween I've had in a while. We'll do thay again this year.
So, just wondering, does anyone else pretty much go it alone?

Oh no, you shouldn't have felt foolish! They were the foolish ones for showing up to a Halloween party with no costume on!

That's too bad. Just know that you're not alone, Spiral Spider. In another thread, quite a few members stated that they, also, don't get to do much for Halloween (or the types of things that they would prefer). Not many get into the holiday here either, which I seriously dislike about the area.
I agree with kallie. Anyone who doesn't take the opportunity to dress up is a fool...

Hi spiral spider..I too am alone. my wife isn't into it at all...says it is silly. My sisters adn brother are into it as much as I am..but they live on the other side of the country. No one around here is into it at all...no one in my town even decorates their house. I stopped a few years ago because I felt foolish..so now I just buy some decorations...and put them up in the house halloween week...then take them down and store them. It is depressing not being able to share this with my wife..but thats how it goes..I know how you feel...and I do like going and seeing setups in stores and on line....but I do miss having a group of people to go to haunted houses with.

Think of it this way........ the less who are "into it" means the more attention you get for being "into it". Know what I mean?
It's fun being the quirky one on the block!

In a way, yes. It would be nice to have more who are into it, though. Last year, I went down Tillson Street, in Romeo, where nearly every single house was decorated and it was wicked (link to multiple videos: http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...halloween&aq=f). Watch at least one of the vids and then tell me that you wouldn't love living in an area like that...

I'm the Halloween freak not the hubby, but he helps when & how he can. He's my power tool/heavy lifter/hold-this-while-I-fix-this guy. If I weren't around he wouldn't bother, but would give out candy. I'm the only person on our street that does more than a JOL & window decorations so I'm alone there, but that's OK by me, it makes me "The Halloween House" & that too is OK by me though sometimes I wish I had some real competition on the street to up the ante.

I hate to hear you did all the work for nothing. I decorate the crap out of the house and sometimes I'm the only one that sees it, but I still love doing it. Hubby is in Air Force and over in Turkey this year, so I'm decorating for myself. I love every pumpkin and skull I put up. Last year I did the guest bathroom as a black tar pit and noone even used the room the whole month, but I loved it cause I was expermenting with a new idea. Sometimes I feel so proud of my work, and noone else sees it, so I take pictures and post them on facebook or forums just so I have other people to talk to about my ideas. We here, would love to see your work. Share it with us. By the way, what state are you in? I'd hate to find out you're just down the road and missing a Halloween buddy. I'd have you come over and I'd throw you a birthday party 600 tots will attend.

Yeah, I guessed I never thought of it before, but my house is really one of the few that is decorated inside and out on my street. I suppose it would be nice to share my Halloween passion with someone, anyone, but I decorate all my house for me to see. If no one else does, well, at least I made myself happy. You're not alone in being alone to celebrate.
