This time next year i may be living in another area and would like to put a note in this years treat bag thanking my regular TOT's for all the enjoyment over the last seven years and explaining that this year MAY be the last. I seem to remember others haunters doing the same thing One message that stood out with something along the lines of "Thanking everyone ... All things must come to an end... and the spirits that haunt these hallowed grounds have found peace and moved on..."
If anyone remembers the message please let me know where I can find it. I did a search under "last, final, ending and message" and some how overlooked it. The message was so well done that I know my uncreative self could never do a better job.

That was me!
We scaled down our big display and ended our big toy-give-away. I felt bad not giving "fair warning" to parents and kids that always made a big effort (sometimes driving more than 10 miles or giving up local TOTing) to stop at my house. So that last year's treats and toys all had attached this note on orange paper in a Halloween font:
"The spirits that dwell here have found their rest.
It's time to thank our honored guests.
We've shared in your laughter, frights, and screams.
Now the time has come to depart to dreams.
Hold close Halloween's spirit through a child's eyes.
And take from here the day's last prize.

We thank you for keeping the Halloween spirit with us throughout the years and announce this will be the last year of our Toy Give-Away.
The ______ Family.
P.S. BOO!"

I had more than a few tears, too. It was heartbreaking to disappoint all the kids that looked forward- and all the families that made their visit a family tradition.

Dang, reading that was like finding out there is no Great Pumpkin!
And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting

Agreed! I really hope the parents didn't read that to the children. They would have been crying. Damn, I'm just about crying. It's like finding out your grandparents died. Love the poetry and how it's delievered though. Great idea and I'm sure one day I will have to use.
Habuu, are you moving to a new location and can still do a haunt or is it really bad?

Boo Who, many thanks for the information. I hope you dont mind that I borrow your idea. I am really glad you are still active on the forum.
Growler, no its all good. I am tired of my commute and hopefully will relocate closer to the paycheck. As of now I drive 38 miles each way, hope to reduce that down to between 2-5 miles. I am in the early stages but will have a better idea in the next couple of months. Hopefully I will know by halloween. I really dont want to disappoint the TOT's I have some who have been coming since they learned to walk.
As far as picking a new neighborhood who cares about the schools, first is how will the yard work with my current and future plans and what the foot traffic will be.

I was considering not doing a setup this year because TOT isn't on halloween (always the Sat before) and it's from 5-7 so it's not even dark. Half the time we get rain/snow or it's 40 degrees. Most people don't even pass out candy on our street anymore because of the date/time change. I don't get near as many kids anymore because of all those factors, and it's a lot of work doing all the setting up and tearing down.
Then I think about how disappointed some of the kids and grownups would be if I didn't set up. I really don't want to let anyone down. I like to scare the kids, and I get compliments every year on my display. So I decided yet again I will be setting up. I'm losing my house next year due to my divorce and will most likely be in an apartment for a while, so I really should do it while I can. Plus what else would I be doing?Send more paramedics!!

I would never live in an area that schedules when Halloween should be. Thankfully I live someplace were Halloween is actually Halloween, even if it happens to be a weekday.
