As a follow up to the magazine sightings and initial impressions thread, I thought it would be interesting to hear what people would like to see or not see in a Halloween magazine. I'll go first.
I would like to see interior and exterior decorating and party planning at various price points. Some side bars that tell "where to buy it" or "how to build it on a budget" would be nice. Interviews with both professional and amateur haunters would appeal to me especially if they share tips, secrets, lessons learned the hard way, etc. Costumes and makeup that could be used for wearing to parties and/or on props would be cool (especially if they included video links for visual instruction). I want to see perennial favorites such as jack o' lanterns, bats, black cats, witches, ghosts, graveyards, etc get most of the coverage (I want to spend my time and money on things with staying power) but I'm open to seeing some trendy ideas as well. The work of Halloween crafters and artisans would appeal to me if it's original, exceptional and/or historical/retro.
I'm not interested in anything that's been shown before unless there is a unique or fresh interpretation to it. Not too many recipes as other magazines have that covered. Not so much on children's crafts and costumes as the Women's/Family magazines cover that. Overall tone of the magazine would be not too cutesy or not too gory...keep it in the eerie, creepy, spooky, slightly macabre realm.
What have I missed?

How about listings for factory direct sources. I'm not sure where Eyegore gets his info, but it would be great to know what factories are willing to ship and what the minimum buys are.
Undead and loving it!

Definitely someting geared more to adults! Enough with all the "how to make a cupcake monster" and costumes made from pj's. I'd love to see artlicles and photos on different styles of interior decor, yard displays from basic to the extreme, and prop building for all skill levels. That's not too much to ask, is it?

I think these posts pretty much sum up what I'd look for in a magazine or book. There will be children at our family Halloween party this year, but by no means will it be geared towards them. I was just flipping through my collection of past issues and year after year more kid oriented projects have taken up space. I'd like to see ideas that could even be modified for year-round decor.

My ideal would be a blend in the style of the best from Martha Stewart and how-to's. I think you covered it well in the first post, but a lot of tutorial neat projects with step-by-step pictures would be awesome. Think of this forums tutorials in magazine form.
Over the years, I've bookmarked some neat things. I'm finding now a lot of my bookmarks are dead and I have no way of getting the info that was on those pages. Love to have a lot of those same neat type things just available to buy in a detailed magazine each year.

I just love to see lots and lots of the color orange...that grabs my attention first. I too am sick of the homemade kiddie costumes. Is there really any kid out there who would wear that stuff? and if mommy is dropping a $10 spot on a magazine she isn't concerned about saving money by making a costume at home...JMO
