Several yrs. ago my Brother checked out a library book."How to Build Your Sundial?"
There is a chart in the book showing how "Time" measured via mechanical means versus solar means (sun dial) disagree with one another every day of the year except for the four equinoxes. The rest of the year as you go from day to day time might be 3 minutes "Fast" one day, 3minutes and 5 seconds "Slow" the next, ... so it goes until (In the chart, in this book) you got to the night of October 31st.. then there was a Sixteen Minute difference between Solar & Mechanical measured time! No other day had such a time difference, Oct. 31st stood alone in this at the top (or bottom?) of this chart.
"Halloween" has been the scariest night of the year for many people's and cultures.
Maybe it;s all just a time aberration? The earth's rotation along with other slight imperfect movements create a time warp, allowing old energies to be seen, felt just from the natural influences of the earth itself spinning through space?

If you're for real, that's really, really fascinating! I'm gonna have to do some researching of my own.

It's known as the equation of time. It was quite common for this to be included in almanacs and given different 'meanings'.

It varies according to the Earth's orbit, and is measured differently at differing times in differing locations, so whenever/wherever the book was written, it COULD have been Oct 31...but it is always AROUND October 31, if not precisely ON it. Presently, I believe it's November 2nd that is the greatest deviation in North America. The sun appears to travel 16 minutes 'fast' on this day.

There is, however a nearly identical, opposing deviation in the spring, around early March, where the sun appears to run as much as 15 minutes 'slow'.

I think it's a logical assumtion that the holidays surrounding the coming dark of winter, and coming light of summer do tend to occur around these magical times when the sun alters it's time in the sky.

i'm more interested in this explaining why some days feel longer than others. Not just during the equinoxes, but just on regular days through the year. Like, last week was so quick for me and this week is already dreadfully slow. Hmmm....

I wonder if this why the pagans believed that the veil between worlds was at its thinnest.

    THIS IS FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I am curious about this for sure. I read the post above as well from UnOrthodOx. So you are saying a sundial can tell a different time versus a regular old alarm or computer clock?? Please tell me more

    Also, why does this happen??

DarkManDustin That could be. Did they have sundials long ago??? I assume they probably did. There are rumors that Stonehenge was used as sort of a similar sundial.

I wish we could go back in time sometimes just to see what Halloween was in the past. I would love to experience some of the origins of Halloween and its roots.

And another thing...On the BBC science program maybe 2 months ago they were discussing "Particles". Everything is made of particles and they are moving back & forth so fast that they look like they are not moving." (An excuse some employees make?)
A man attached a thin, flat, small piece of metal to a computer chip(like a diving board) placed it inside of a clear cube, but to see it move you must have No Light, No Heat, and No Wind.
"No Light-No Heat-No Wind" sort of describes the wine cellar below the level of my basement here, possibly optimal conditions for seeing the random, left over particles that once belonged to a living human being who died a long time ago and is buried somewhere, but a few particles of her can be seen every once & awhile when these conditions are right?
Turn off the lights, there will be no light in the wine cellar. There is no wind there, there is only 52 degrees of "Heat" at floor level most of the time.
Could this information be an explanation of the ghost of a woman seen in the wine cellar by a great number of people ever since 1925 (that I know of)
We have also seen "Orbs" down there with the naked eye, Then took it's picture, so forget saying it may have been a "Lense Flare, Moisture, Dust, Camera problem, Film Problem. We saw it First, Then took it's picture, a Blue/green ball of light, floating around the room(it seemed to have a gold edge to it) This happened four years ago on October 31st during "Ghost Seeker's Night"
Buying a Haunted House to create a haunted house must mean I'm a lazy guy?
I have been given the credit for special effects that I sure Do Not know how to do.

It happens because the Earth's rotation, axis, and eliptical orbit. As the seasons progress, the sun shifts position in the sky, which changes how a shadow on the sun dial will read. It's not the same every year because the earth 'wobbles' on it's axis. The interesting thing is it IS a predictable pattern. Halloween is right at the time of year when there is a very sharp spike to the sun being 'fast'. Then it levels back out very quickly in November.
