I'm sure this has been asked before, but I always wondered how everyone presents their candy selection, treats, or goodies to Trick or Treaters.
Do you just have a bowl filled with candy by the front door, ready to hand out?! Or use a witch hat turned upside down? What do you do?
Just wonderin.

We keep it simple. We're one of 2-3 people on the block that give candy away and unfortunately the street is so dark (because so many pretend they're not home) so we just keep it lit up outside and have a big Halloween bowl inside filled with candy. We just wait until they knock and go to the door. I don't dare leave a bowl outside with a "take one" note because some punk would just take it all. LOL

I usually take my daughter out and leave a bowl on the porch. This year I'm dressing up to present my candy. And my boyfriend is from Iraq and he's never celebrated Halloween before and he will dress up too and help me out. I'm pretty excited!

We get upwards of 500 trick or treaters so a bowl would never do - we're talking big tubs here! Plus, we stay outside in the midst of all the action. With that many kids, we'd never get to close our door between groups so we might as well be outside having fun too. What I like to do is make up small treat bags so I can keep count of how many I give out and make sure it is evenly distributed.

My witch hat is usually on my head - haha!
I have one of those big black tubs from Wal-Mart but I usually have to refill it with more treats at some point before the night is over.
I don't let TOTers pick out what they want. I give them what I think they deserve, for example, the little babies/toddlers get different treats from the older kids.Is it Halloween yet?

Pfft....I'd be happy with at least 15 TOTs lol. Last year we only got 3
I just have a festive Halloween bowl, filled with chocolates sitting by the door......or on my lap
When I lived in a different part of the city, I had to fill a huge cauldron full of goodies. I use to hold out the bowl & let the kids pick what they want....that is until one group of about 4 or 5, 12 year old boys decided it was a free for all and grabbed multiple handfulls each. Luckily I was in my witch costume and was able to yell "That's enough! Now get outta here before I put a spell on you!"

I only get a few the past couple of years because of where I live and I make up treat bags with toys and candy. I did that when I lived in a really busy neighborhood too though...but really busy for me was like 80 kids. If I had hundreds I don't think I'd do treat bags. Under 100...probably would still do it, yeah! Then I dress up and hand them out from a black basket or large bin (depending on which neighborhood I was in).

I do full size snickers, so I pretty much drop the candy bar in their bag.
I've thought of having a variety and letting them choose, but that would try my patience.
Plus, using the full size is a great way to keep count of ToTs

from 2005:

Other than the need for a MUCH BIGGER bowl, it hasn't changed much. Considering switching to my 10' long 2' wide buffet table instead...
It is more monitored than it used to be, however.Last edited by UnOrthodOx; 08-02-2011 at 09:46 AM.
