What would you consider the essentials to be? Things that can be used outside of HW don't count toward the space, like extension cords and such.

Fog Machine, froggys juice, candles, and a costume. You can scare the poo out of people by taking away their senses. Make it too quiet, add fog to distort vision, and put candles around...

    It works.

That for me is an impossible challenge. Not sure many here could do it- haunt freaks that we are. I use quite a lot of bins, and I even use the bins themselves in the sets to elivate props, or to use as tables- you name it. What could I fit in just one? Certainly essencials, but nothing I could soley get by on.

Would it be possible to get more natural elements elements to add to the haunt? I have seen some great work done with hay bales, corn stalks and pumpkins though I know this wouldn't be possible for everyone.

I agree with what Hollows said though with the possible addition of a few well placed spot or flood lights with a coloured gel. The effect of the fog and limited, coloured light could definitely help create the proper atmosphere. When you have less it just comes down to keeping things hidden like Hollows said. Good luck with everything wilbret! Be sure to keep us updated with what you decide to do.

This is an easy task. Get a couple boxes of orange and purple lights. Walmart has some cheap masks, including hockey masks that would fit in the tub. Even their "scream" robes don't take up much room. A strobe light will fit and a cheap fog machine.

Or you can just fill the tub with Candy and the ToTs will love you

Taking a page from the movie Trick r Treat:

Sheets with crossbeam supports (can break those down into nothing storage wise). See the yard in the first story for what I'm talking about.

Jack o lanterns. You don't have to store them since they rot, and if you do enough of them, they make a HUGE impression...

Huge bags of cobwebs, 1 large foldable spider, 1 small strobe, 1 forg machine and juice. That is about my limits for yard haunt. Cover your home and yard with cobwebs and a huge spider or two. put the strobe facing the webs and have a fog machine going from under a bush or the webs and you have instant atmosphere! Plus you also should have plenty of room in the totes for a few other decorations of tour choosing.
This is a great thread! It is like "What would you take in a deserted island?" questions!

I loaded up a 6x12 Uhaul from front to back and ceiling to floor with HW stuff and sold it after HW last year. I'm looking for ideas from you guys on how to keep the haunt alive, but keeping it realistic when space and time are an issue. I know a lot of you live in apartments, condos, etc and have great tips and tricks.

    Spiderwebs. Check!
Fog machine. Sold all of mine. I kept the bubble fogger.
Lights. Sold about 3 bins worth, but I have some left.
Black lights. Sold about a dozen. I kept one UV wash unit.
Props? Sold them all except my 3 latex window ghosts.
Costumes. That's one box I forgot about...I have 10 years of costumes!

I am really leaning toward the jackolantern idea, but that takes time I don't have anymore. Maybe a pumpkin carving party would work? We tried last year but we didn't product many pumpkins.

I used to be able to walk out the door at 5pm from work and have spare time. Now? I leave much later and come home to kids that need daddy-time. Keep the ideas coming! Thanks!
